Hi guys !!
I'm a 23 year old college graduate living in Montreal (Quebec). I made the decision to move from Quebec to Alberta in April 2007 ... in Edmonton, the job market is hot, better quality of life and so on ... It's so exciting, I can't wait !! I would like to know about your experiences (job, life over there, cost of living, how different and/or similar it is from Montreal .... just anything!

Thank you.

I've never been to Alberta but you might want to consider the fact that although you might make money more easily overthere, you'll also be spending more money. I was told cost of life is quite higher than here in Montreal. But I'm really not the one to answer this... I really don't know how things are overthere.

from other posts I've seen I am not sure S_lone has ever been outside of Quebec :)

Alberta is quite different and quite the same as Quebec.

Similar in the sence of going in their own direction , having a problem with the Fed's prying in their business etc.

Different in outlook, Quebec is a very socialist society, where Alberta is a individualist society...

As far as cost of living..it depends where you are moving. Montreal is cheap for housing by most standards whereas Alberta is quite high...extremely high in Ft. McMurray . However gas is cheaper and taxes a a lot lower....no sales tax.

Montreal is likely the most "alive" city in Canada so you might find Alberta cities a bit dull.

Well thats what I can tell you!

Hi Sylvia. I'm in Calgary and I can tell you that as a college graduate, you will have lots of job options. However, the vacancy rate here is pretty low. You don't say what community you plan to move to but I can tell you that Calgary's housing market, including rentals is pretty tight - Edmonton not quite so bad. I'd recommend having a place to live lined up before you get here if you can. On the other hand. the quality of life here is wonderful and we look forward to having you!

Ha! Ha!

Actually, I've spent most of my childhood summers in the Maritimes and truly loved it there. Beautiful place, beautiful people. I've also been to Italy and Nicaragua. I also visited Boston and New York.

I also visited a truly exotic place called Old Orchard somewhere in Maine. Man you wouldn't BELIEVE the things I saw overthere!!!

Seachange9898 ...
Thank you for the advice. I'm planning on moving in Edmonton. I have people there that I know and can trust and by the time I arrive there, I should have place to stay. Can you tell me what companies are good to work for overthere? And how about Costco?

Thanks !

Just out of curiosity ... is Alberta a place you could consider relocating? You're from Montreal, right?

My answer is NO but that totally depends on my own personal situation. I'm a musician, not a businessman. So Montreal is a great place to be for me. I was born in Quebec city and all the people I love are in Quebec. I am very happy here. But who knows where I could live in the future? I'm not saying I will live in Quebec forever, the world is a pretty big place...

Quebec is not better or worse than Alberta, just different.

Good luck in your relocation!

My ex wife is from Montreal and now lives in Edmonton running her own business..She has said that she would never move back to Montreal after being there..but always has a place in her heart for Montreal.

Of course one big difference is very little French language or culture exists in Edmonton. As well it is a much smaller city..somewhat like moving from Montreal to Sherbrooke..well not that small but you get the point
