After ninety scientists and experts took the step of addressing an open letter to the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P., the Member for Calgary Southwest and the Prime Minister of Canada in relation to climate change and the dangers it has been found to pose to this generation, the Honourable Scott Brison, P.C., M.P., the Member for Kings—Hants and the Environment Critic for Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, urged the Prime Minister to take the opinions of the experts to heart, and to take steps to ensure that future generations have a safe environment in which to live.

In addition to this announcement, Mr. Brison has indicated in recent days that he opposes the endeavour of the present Government of Canada to reduce the budget of Environment Canada by eighty per cent (-80 %), to free up money for a transport tax credit to be implemented some time in a future budget. He noted that the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, P.C., the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, P.C., and the Right Honourable Paul Martin, P.C., M.P., the Member for LaSalle—Émard, each recognized the part that Canada could play in terms of reducing the effect of climate change on the world — a part which, he would contend, Mr. Harper is ignoring.

Liberal Party of Canada[/color]]Signed by government, private sector and university-based scientists representing nearly every single atmospheric scientist in the country, the letter states there is "unambiguous evidence of changing climate in Canada" and evidence of "increasing impacts…on Canada’s natural ecosystems." It also cautions that the effects of climate change are not only more severe than initially forecast, but also that climate change is happening at a rate that will impact this generation, not just the next.

Jay, sorry; I meant that sincerely, in that if someone doesn't think that the Government of Canada should take on that issue during this particular Thirty-ninth Parliament of Canada, then that would be the option. For further certainty, that option doesn't necessarily mean that the Government "doesn't care."
