In other, far more important bad news, much of Telegraph Cove burned down. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the blaze. A former whaling station and sawmill, it had become a major tourist destination on Northern Vancouver Island, and jump off point for Broughton Archipelago whale and bear tours.

New Palestinian terror group's flag displayed New Year's Eve in Toronto
The flag emblazoned with two war guns represents the Lions' Den, a group that has reportedly carried out more than 100 terror attacks

Toronto Police are now investigating after troubling flag emblazoned with two M4 carbine guns that represents a known Middle East terror group was displayed at a downtown rally on New Years Eve.

“The Hate Crime Unit is investigating this incident,” Toronto Police spokesperson Nadine Ramadan said Thursday.

Just hours before terror carnage rocked the United States as it ushered in 2025 on New Year’s Eve, a flag representing a deadly new terror group out of Palestine was seen displayed near where many were taking in the fireworks show on the city’s harbourfront.

It’s unknown if this flag making an appearance among pro-Hamas demonstrators in Queen’s Quay, who later took over the main hall of Union Station, was a warning to any potential terrorism in Canada.

But what is known that in the hours ahead there were 14 people killed and about 30 injured when a truck carrying an ISIS flag rammed attack innocent revellers in New Orleans, terror events in New York and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas.

Needless to say, in Toronto where we have suffered a similar van attack and have seen an ISIS-inspired shooting spree at a Mississauga takeout restaurant and endured the Danforth shooting massacre, it’s worth noting the timing of this flag making its debut here.

“Amongst the screams for Intifada you’ll see a black and white flag – Lions’ Den flag,” pointed out investigative journalist and political influencer Dahlia Kurtz. “Israeli officials have designated Lions’ Den a terror squad… It’s comprised of one to three member cells – mostly armed Palestinian men in their 20s. So what could possibly go wrong? They are determined to fight to the death.”

If this was a “never again” sweatshirt with a Jewish Defence League logo, Toronto Police would take issue with those wearing it. So, it’s highly appropriate that this flag be removed in the future because unlike the JDL, which isn’t a banned terror group, the players represented in this flag are.

“The display of the flag of the Lions’ Den in Toronto on New Year’s Eve should be of concern to all Canadians,” said B’nai Brith Canada Director of Research and Advocacy Richard Robertson. “The Lions’ Den, which receives funding from listed terror groups, has emerged over the last several years as a violent militant organization responsible for numerous terror attacks in Israel. It is listed as a terrorist organization by the Israeli government and has been sanctioned by the State Department in the United States.”

Canada seems to be asleep at the switch on this group and this flag, which displays two war guns as part of its logo.

Mayor Olivia Chow, Premier Doug Ford, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the RCMP have so far not commented.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) said while “we are unfamiliar with this particular photo, or which rally this flag was alleged to have been flown in, we want to make it clear the NCCM will always defend the right to peaceful protest – but the operational word is peaceful. We also stand unequivocally for human rights and against injustice whoever is driving it.”

This was not a peaceful flag and it does not represent a peaceful group.

“The flying of a terrorist flag by Hamas supporters is an indication of what the Jewish community should expect for 2025,” said Meir Weinstein, of Israel Now, which has expressed concern for more violence perpetrated on the community in the year ahead.

That this flag was at a Torontonian protest, can’t be swept under the carpet as nothing.

“It is disgusting to see the continued domination of public spaces and the open celebration of terror groups in Canada. Canadians are sick and tired after 15 months of growing extremism, intimidation, and incitement,” said Noah Shack, interim president of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. “As we just witnessed in New Orleans, glorifying terrorist groups is a precursor to mass murder. Authorities at all levels must do more – and must take decisive action – to stop this clear threat to public safety.”

While Canada’s political leaders don’t take seriously the threats toward Jewish Torontonians and only pay them lip service, those who understand the growing antisemitism that is rampant in Toronto also understand that his flag is what Robertson of B’nai Brith sees as potential “incitement.”

“How can our leaders sit idly by while fringe elements of our society continue to openly defy our nation’s morals, sow division, and intimidate Canadians with their inciting and hateful actions? What more needs to occur before order is restored?” asked Robertson. “The continued proliferation of an environment that permits incitement and hate to spread without consequence has emboldened radicals to the point where they do not fear repercussions for celebrating violent extremists.”

“This is not just an affront to Canadian values but represents a major threat to the safety and security of all Canadians,” he added.

When you compare the political outrage after incidents such as a Jewish girl’s school being shot up three times to a false story about a girl claiming she was attacked by a man who tried to cut off her hijab, you can see the double standard on full display.

“Following the display of its flag in Toronto, and given its strong ties to other listed terror entities, it is incumbent that Canada’s federal government proactively turn its attention to the Lions’ Den and list the organization as a terror entity,” said Robertson.

If it were a Freedom Convoy trucker, the Trudeau government would react and bring out the horses and declare a modern-form of a martial law.

Backgrounder on the Lions’ Den prepared by B’nai Brith Canada at the request of the Toronto Sun:

The Arin al-Usoud (Lions’ Den) emerged in August 2022, centred in Nablus’ Old City (West Bank), specifically the Al-Yasmina neighbourhood, after the killing of a terrorist named Ibrahim al-Nabulsi by the IDF.

Since then they have carried out over a hundred terrorist attacks.

According to the ECFR (European Council on Foreign Relations), the Lions’ Den “is thought to have grown out of the so-called ‘Nablus Battalion’ – a local umbrella group comprising Islamic Jihad’s al-Quds Brigades, Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and Hamas’ Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Lions’ Den likely still benefits from coordination and cooperation with these groups. Many of the group’s members appear to have family ties to Fatah.”

Israeli news website Walla, quoting the Shin Bet, says the founders of the Lions’ Den armed group are 26-year-old Adham “Mabrouka” Al-Shishani, 22-year-old Mohammad Al-Dakhil, 21-year-old Ashraf Mubaslat, and 18-year-old Ibrahim Nabulsi, all of whom were assassinated by Israel this year.

At present, one of the group’s senior leaders is reportedly Musab Shtayyeh, who was arrested by Palestinian Authority security forces in September 2022.

Musab Shtayyeh is also a member of Hamas, according to Al Jazeera.

Lions’ Den also receives funding from listed terrorist entities such as “PFLP, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”

On Oct. 11, 2022, the Lions’ Den murdered 21-year old IDF soldier Ido Baruch while he was manning a military post at the Ganot interchange in the West Bank.

The Colt M4 Carbine on their flag is indicative of their ‘new’ stream of Palestinian terror, using the symbolism of this weapon over the traditional AK-47 alludes to them taking these weapons off of KIA Israelis or from the PA.

The United States has imposed sanctions on the Lions’ Den.

According to Khaled Abu Toameh, a Jerusalem-based Arab journalist who reports on Palestinian affairs, it is “the first organized armed group that consists of gunmen belonging to a number of Palestinian factions – including Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP.”

He notes that “by concealing their political affiliation, the (Lions’ Den) gunmen, who are also very active in the Jenin area, are trying to make it look as though they are grassroots activists who don’t belong to any Palestinian faction.”

According to Palestinian security sources, Hamas is “behind the Lions’ Den armed group.”

Terror supporters get bolder even as terror strikes on NYE
We have a real problem across North America with support for terrorist groups breaking out into the open

The globalized intifada is here, and it isn’t looking good for Western democracies.

Hours after an ISIS-inspired attack in New Orleans killed at least 14, a number that could still rise, there were marchers in the streets of Manhattan singing the praises of Hamas.

“Resistance is glorious — we will be victorious,” the crowds chanted.

It’s the type of chants we hear regularly on the streets of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver in Canada. The same calls ring out on the streets of London, Paris, Melbourne and other major western cities.

We are being invaded by a radical ideology that seeks to destroy its host society.

I’m sure these words will bring out many apologists who will say Hamas and ISIS are not the same. They will seek to claim that Hamas is simply an extension of a Palestinian liberation movement steeped in self-determination.

Don’t believe it.

“The brutality of Hamas — this bloodthirstiness — brings to mind the worst — the worst rampages of ISIS,” President Joe Biden said just days after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terror attacks.

Hamas and ISIS share a deep belief in a fundamentalist vision of Islam that is antithetical to Western democratic values. They both believe in a vision of Islam that rejects the existence of Israel and rejects peaceful coexistence with Jews, Christians or even Muslims who do not share their twisted values.

And yet, we have supporters of both of them within our society.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man behind the carnage in New Orleans, was able to carry out his attack. According to authorities, Jabbar pledged allegiance to ISIS in the first half of 2024 and reporting by the Wall Street Journal claims Jabbar’s radicalization after a career in the U.S. military may have come following a bitter divorce and a deteriorating financial condition.

As Warren Kinsella has written, we will likely find out that Jabbar was radicalized online somewhere as is so often the case.

That wasn’t the case with Ahmed Eldidi and his son Mostafa who were arrested north of Toronto last July in an ISIS-inspired plot. The senior Eldidi was involved with ISIS before coming to Canada via Egypt.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani national who came to Canada on a student visa and was arrested in September before he could carry out an ISIS-inspired attack on Brooklyn’s Jewish community, likely arrived with his hatred of Jews. He wasn’t in the country that long – he barely had time to meet Jews in Canada – before beginning his online plot to try and launch the biggest terror attack in NYC since 9/11.

CBC just reported that an 18 year-old from Toronto’s suburbs was arrested last month while trying to join ISIS.

ISIS supporters trying to carry out attacks in Canada and the United States. Hamas supporters marching in our streets declaring their support for a bloodthirsty terrorist organization.

We’ve seen the calls to delegitimize Israel at the marches and rallies that most in the media will falsely describe as “pro-Palestinian” protests. They are pro-Hamas protests and have been since Oct. 7.

“We don’t want two states! Bring us back to ‘48!” they chanted in October while walking down Bloor St. in Toronto.

In November, Ahmad Jarrar Hajahmad, one of the key organizers of the regular marches in Toronto and of campus encampments at U of T, McGill and the University of Ottawa, made a bold statement.

“Teach your children the Zionist entity is the enemy. Teach your children that the resistance (Hamas) is an honour. Teach your children that there is no such country called Israel,” he called out.

Hajahmad was one of the leaders of the protest that took over Union Station on New Year’s Eve and disrupted New Year’s Eve celebrations at Harbourfront.

As Joe Warmington has reported, the Toronto Police Hate Crimes Unit is now investigating after a flag for Lions’ Den, a Palestinian terrorist group, was spotted at a downtown rally on Tuesday night.

Day by day, those that support terrorist groups, those who would destroy the Western democratic order, become bolder, more strident. They aren’t hiding their views, they are stating them openly, even hours after deadly terror attacks in this part of the world.

When will our leadership wake up?

Violent, stupid 2024 a harbinger of a bloody new year

Mert Sozdinler
Mert Sozdinler was found slain on Jan. 2, 2024.
The second day of 2024 set the year’s sour tone like an out-of-tune tuba.

It was a domestic, murder-suicide at an apartment in the Bathurst St-Baycrest Ave. area. Cops theorized that the woman — whom they never identified — punched 28-year-old Mert Sozdinler’s ticket before topping herself.

That was Jan. 2, 2024. Things didn’t get much better.

Another homicide that month fit nicely into the year’s overall theme. Trix are not apparently for kids but knives and guns are.

Scott Robert Partington, 35, of Toronto, is the city's second homicide victim of 2024.
Scott Robert Partington, 35, of Toronto, is the city’s second homicide victim of 2024.
Scott Robert Partington, 35, was stabbed to death on Jan. 6 downtown. His alleged killer? Just 16 and charged with manslaughter, possession of a prohibited weapon and in another of 2024’s greatest hits, fail to comply.

There were 85 homicides in Toronto in 2024, up from the 73 recorded in 2023. It will almost certainly get worse in 2025, driven by many of the same factors that triggered a spike in 2024.

Guns. Easy bail. Light sentences. Immigration. The Youth Criminal Justice Act. Drugs. The list is endless.

“We arrest them, they get bail, then we arrest them again, then they get bail again, then we arrest them again. We’re arresting some of these guys numerous times,” one cop told me.

“Most of them are incredibly stupid.”

Remember: The Liberals aided and abetted by the Supreme Court of Canada (why do people say mean things about us?) ditched mandatory minimums. For good measure, they kicked sentence stacking for murder to the curb. Kill one? Get one, two, three, four more for free!

The Supremes said stacking sentences was … “cruel and unusual.”

Sometimes two of the deadly toxins that frequently formulate homicide are present. That is youth and guns.

That happened on June 2 when five men were shot in the parking lot of North Albion Collegiate Institute while they had the temerity to play dominoes. Delroy “George” Parkes, 61, was dead at the scene.

Three days later, Seymour Gibbs, 46, joined his friend in death.

Cops say the triggerman is a 14-year-old male, poised for boffo street cred in another five years. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.

A nationwide gang war sent gangbangers to the morgue in the GTA, Alberta and B.C. Fentanyl remains a deadly epidemic, fuelling gang violence and packing emergency rooms.

Most of the crimes and outrages I list are from my 2024 notebooks and are by no means all-encompassing. But they do give you a taste.

IMMIGRATION

The 11-year-old boy slated to die alongside his gangster father. A high-profile Sikh activist rubbed out in B.C.’s Lower Mainland. A family destroyed by a wrong-way driver racing from a liquor store robbery on Hwy. 401. In Ottawa, six people — including four children — were stabbed to death by a tenant.

Terror suspect Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, was also an “international student” mulling the gay gambit to stay in Canada as a refugee. But cops say his real purpose was to unleash slaughter on New York’s Jewish community. That would allegedly be his Oct. 7 surprise.

The commonality in all of these horrors is that in every case, an international student is accused. None of the charges have been proven in court. How in hell did these people get into the country? How did they slip past the scrutiny of Canada Border Services?

Toronto Police at the scene of a fatal shooting that also left a man with stab wounds at 164 Silverthorn Ave.
NO SWEAT: A U of T study claimed there was “no correlation” between more cops and a lower crime rate. HAR! HAR! Toronto Police at the scene of a fatal shooting that also left a man with stab wounds at 164 Silverthorn Ave. P
BUT DON’T WORRY

A goofball study from researchers at the University of Toronto and the Upstream Lab proclaimed there is no “consistent correlation” between more cops on the street and less crime. No, really.

This was the kicker: “Although we do not make specific policy recommendations regarding police budgets, our findings raise questions about the reasoning for such vast differences in police funding across the country despite overall downward crime rates” (emphasis mine). Huh?

OH, SCAM-A-DA

Canadians could be forgiven if they took their criminal cues from Ottawa. Led by bureaucrats and light-fingered consultants, our public treasury has been raped and pillaged in an orgy of parasitical feasting. See the ArrivScam Bros.

Convicted fraudster Karima Manji, of Mississauga, pleaded guilty to fraud in Iqaluit. Even in a nation of cheats, Manji’s scam was pretty outrageous. The crook registered her daughters as Inuit, leading to big money grants. She even said a dead woman was their birth mother.

KINDLY: Judge Anne Brown fretted that a serial groper could be booted from Canada.
KINDLY: Judge Anne Brown fretted that a serial groper could be booted from Canada.
THE KINDLY JUDGE

Calgary Judge Anne Brown fretted at the plight of poor Rajbir Singh, 25, accused of groping a woman’s genitals at a Cowtown watering hole. Then, he did it again.

The “international student” was found guilty of sexual assault but Social Justice Brown agonized that a conviction could get Singh deported. Brown tossed in a discharge, so there would be no permanent criminal record when it came time for said appeal.

Donald Musselman was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2019 shooting death of Ottawa musician Markland Campbell. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2021 jailhouse killing of Zakaria Sheek-Hussein.
SECOND MURDER IS FREE

Two-time killer Donald Musselman should be sending flowers to the Supreme Court of Canada. In the normal world, the 23-year-old Ottawa thug would be locked up forever with second-degree murder and manslaughter convictions (to be served consecutively) stacked to the rafters.

In May 2022, the nine justices (so say we all!) on Canada’s top court overturned a 2011 Criminal Code provision that allowed judges to impose parole ineligibility periods of 25 years to be served consecutively for each murder. “Cruel and unusual punishment,” they sniffed.

For the first time, Oliver Karafa admits to murder but says it wasn't planned - despite what his co-accused, wife Lucy Li, has testified
Oliver Karafa, left, and Lucy Li have been convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of drug dealer Tyler Pratt, and the attempted murder of Jordyn Romano.
SOME GOOD NEWS

Millennial Bonnie and Clyde — Oliver Karafa and Yun Lu (Lucy) Li — were convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder in a 2021 double shooting in Stoney Creek. Cocaine dealer Tyler Pratt, 39, was dead at the scene while his fiancee, Jordyn Romano, survived a bullet wound. She was pregnant and lost the baby.

Li and Karafa were both dealt automatic life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years.
