The most compelling reason I have seen so far to end the slaughter of our children through abortion.

Hand of Hope - Samuel Alexander Armas - Urban Legends

the baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb. During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. During the surgery on little Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed, hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger.
The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, "Hand of Hope." The text explaining the picture begins, "The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life."
Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture.
She said, "The photo reminds us my pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person" "The Hand" of the fetus. You can see the actual picture, and it is awesome...incredible.

Good one Gerry. I'm no fan of abortion, it too often seems to me to be killing inconvenient people, but at the same time, as a man I'm never going to be pregnant so in a fundamental sense it's a decision I'll never have to face personally, and I'm not even sure I'm entitled to have an opinion on it. But I have one anyway, I've thought about this a lot and have finally decided that this is one case where I cannot draw a line between an abstract philosophical position and a deeply felt personal position: I strenuously object, and could never countenance my wife or my daughter having the procedure. In fact we've told both our children, if you ever accidentally produce a child, don't even think about abortion, see it through and bring that child home to us. It's our grandchild and we want it, we'll take care of it if you can't, and you too if you need it. Our children are both responsible adults now and that's very unlikely to happen, but that offer stands for as long as we live.

Why don't you just tell every human on the planet what they can and cannot do with their own sovereign and private bodies. We'll just all acquiesce our freedoms as human beings to your opinion Gerry.

They can do whatever the hell they want with THEIR body, it's when THEY decide to kill an innocent that I get just a tad uptight.

...their own sovereign and private bodies.
That is the biggest red herring of all in the debate over abortion, and it keeps being repeated in various phrasings--more commonly in terms of women having the right to control their own bodies--as if it meant something. It doesn't. If it were actually possible to have a sovereign and private body the abortion issue would never arise, because there would be no unwanted pregnancies.
