HOLLYWOOD (AFP) - Politician-environmentalist Al Gore made a mock attempt at announcing his candidacy for the US presidency at Sunday's Oscars but was yanked from the stage before he could get the words out.
Queried on stage by actor Leonardo DiCaprio whether he had a "major, major announcement to the world here tonight," former vice president Gore, whose film "An Inconvenient Truth" is nominated for an Academy Award, hesitated, and then pulled out an apparent statement to read.
"Since being up here, you've been very convincing," the Democrat told the audience.
"Even though I honestly had not planned on doing this, I guess with a billion people watching, it's as good as time as any. So, my fellow Americans, I'm going to take this opportunity right here and now to formally announce my intention..."
But suddenly the Oscars orchestra struck up its keynote tune, signalling that Gore and DiCaprio had overstayed their time and had to leave the stage -- and leave the mystery of Gore's intentions for the 2008 race still unanswered.
Gore, vice president under Bill Clinton, narrowly lost the 2000 presidential race to now-president George W. Bush.
Despite the speculation, Gore has repeatedly denied he intends to run for the Democratic nomination in next year's race.

It was all planned to happen exactly the way it did. Gore will never win the presidency. He's one of the beautiful people.

And it just came out that the Gore household uses twice as much energy and power than the average household. Another case of...

"Do as I say and not as I do."

I am not surprised in the slightest. Green nuts never cease to amaze me.

He uses alot more energy then the average person in his Tennessee mansion.

Talk about hypocrits. DO AS I SAY (but not as I do)

Really dislike Al Gore... but if he threw his hat in the ring he would have Hollywood behind him.

Its sickening to see the stars trip all over him and Leo... yuck, slobering over Al.

Where was Spike Lee and Michael Moore at? Those are his film maker professionals. This guy doesn't know if he is on hiorseback or afoot. When he claimed he was the inventer of the internet Bill Gates about had fit while laughing. I did watch this film and it was filled with some facts and lot of half truths or inuendo. If he sticks to doing what he is best at he'll go back home and groom his garden and visit the environmental gropus who will listen to him as a speaker.

Isn't it possible to put all the political hatred away when something "good" for all of us happens?

The movie which Gore produced "is a good thing" for all of us, lets just leave it at that, and let
it help us move forward to make our world better.

Is it really the case that, because you hate gore and democrats, that you would ignore the movie
and not see the good in it.

Where is the good in a documentary when it is filled with half truths and exaggerations? Al Gore says we are in a Planetary Emergency. That to me says danger is imminent and we all must do everything we can individually.

Then yesterday we find out that emperor has no clothes. Al Gore as an individual is doing nothing to curb his own power use. Heated pool in Tennessee! Gas lamps surround his back yard. His excessive use of private jets and large motorcades. He will do nothing to cut back on his comfortable and extravagant life style but we must make steps to cut back on our power consumption and comfort.

His response... "I buy Carbon Credits"

Basically what he is saying is that he can pollute and use as much energy as HE wants as long as he invests money into green technology.

Sorry Al... the common family does not have the means to do such a thing.

I'm not concerned with what Al Gore does, or you, just what good is in the movie, and any movie
which concerns the "care" of our planet, I'm not concerned with picking apart, and finding negatives
just to lash back a someone. Someone did go to the trouble to open a few eyes, which is a good
thing. Can you pick out something good or not, and because Al Gore doesn't live the lifestyle you
approve of, does that mean you won't either.

And, if we all had to keep our mouthes shut until all of us were living perfect lives according what
is good for our planet, noone would be speaking out, it is going to take many more years than you
or I will be around, and many generations to come, so lets start somewhere, eventually people
will be in tune with the earth, and it will become the norm.

Um, anyone take a look at Ahnode Shortzpecker? Ahnode Shortzpecker owns 5 Humvees (fuel mileage for gassers is about 8-9 miles per gallon) and wanders about California in a fleet of government Chevy Suburbans (fuel mileage is about 14 MPG city for 2WDs). He says Californians should get used to $3/gal gasoline: Ahnode's estimated net worth = between $800 and $900 million.
Hypocrites abound everywhere. "Don't do as I do, do as I say".

Another perfect example comes from America's Royalty as they are sometimes refered to... the Kennedy's.

Those self serving people who have always lived by that moto "Do as I say, not as I do."

They have always been champions and critics of our govt. for not doing enough for the environment and finding alternative sources of energy. In many cases I agree... we do need an alternative to fossil fuels.

So... there has been a movement called "Cape Wind" here in Massachusetts and their objective is to build a wind farm (windmills) off the Cape. This will produce clean electricity and wind is clearly a renewable resource.

The kicker is that it is located off shore (Nantucket) in the area where Kennedys and many other rich folk sail the waters in their yachts and sail boats. You would not be able to see the wind farm from shore. The Kennedy's have fought this from Day 1. They do not think it is a good idea. A navigational hazard they say which is a complete crock.

They just don't want their view obstructed by unsightly windmills as they live the life of luxury on their yachts. So the Kennedys ask the common man to sacrifice but when it comes to them...

"Er... ah...not me... I'm a Kennedy... stick it somewhere the little people live."

Hypocrits... one and all.

I'm sure your right about the the windmills, and I would support you on that effort, but I don't like
to hear the Kennedys trashed, as some of them have done great work with the "average" and
underpriviledged" people in the u.s. in certain areas, that started with Robert Kennedy and has
continued with others in the Kennedy family, so we can't paint all of them with one brush.
There is nothing wrong with people being wealthy, I am not, never will be, but there
are many wonderful "wealthy" people, who do great things with their money to help many, Bill Gates being number one on that listt.

Gore uses 20x the amount of energy... but he claims, his carbon print is neutral.

He buys trees to plant to put oxegen back in the air, for all the fuel he burns.

But everybody can't buy trees in some nursery and plant them to become carbon neutral.

He uses his mass of energy and writes cheques off be neutral.. maybe cut down on energy, and set a standard for all Americans.

And I am an enviromentalist, I fear for this world, and I want this issue tackled, and Manitoba Hydro here has a program to get energy efficient light bulbs at a great discount. Over the past 3 years, after bulbs go out, I have made 100% of the lightbulbs in my house the "green" ones.

The government has to make it optional and affordable to be green, and then every human, will realize this threat, and be green if its the same cost or less then being ungreen.

Low-income people, can't be investing in green homes!

Besides that, we need the automobile thing and the industry people to be regulated.

But I don't want a green-world to come at a huge hit at our economy... most don't want the economy to hurt from this.
