It was once said the Gettysburg Address was the worst speech
made by a President. Yet that simple couple of hundred words
has stood the test of time and the critics are not remembered.
Trudeau did some good things and some not so good things like
the rest of us. The problem with the policies of Trudeau, is that
they were never completed. Yes, granted, the national energy
policy angered many in the west. The problem is, with free trade
and other international policy, none of us now have protection of
our national resources that should be used for the benefit of all
Canadians. The pension system the return of the constitution.
the universal medicare improvements, and social improvements
are hard for some to take but in the long run all Canadians did
benefit. We must understand, legislation is required because
as citizens we have trouble being civil to one another and that
is sad. The evolution of progress is an ongoing thing and
centuries from now, Trudeau will be regarded as another father
of Confederation. I find this hard to say as I am not a Liberal,
but history that judges one harshly in the short term, usually
elevates one to lofty heights in the mind of future generations.
Lincoln is a prime example.
Take the ultimate statement by Lincoln that history overlooks.
Loseley put it amounts to this.
If the slaves are freed that's great, but if they remain slaves
so be it, my main purpose is to preserve the Union.
yet he gets full credit for freeing slaves, yet the other part of his
statement goes completely unmentioned.
Trudeau is in the same category, He wiped out terrorists, in
the form of the FLQ. He will also be credited with bringing the
constitution home even though he couldn't get Quebec to
participate. That too will eventually be overlooked. Those
who hammer away at Trudeau, only increase his stature in
the eyes of future generations. And those being critical will
be judged as short sighted warranted or not.
