More good news on the horizon ... looks like we might have a tough time narrowing down the choice for Republican candidate...

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.

"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.

"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.

Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised 52,000 kroner ($8,400) in support of their New York colleagues.

"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.

Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.

On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.

Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.

In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Hmmm...wait a year, then he'll decide. Is he shaking the money tree to see if he can afford it, or waiting for more news about his cancer?

I'm still betting the GOP will put up Jeb Bush, likely against Hillary Clinton.

Rev, Hillary doesn't stand a chance in the southern states. Her husband did well since he was from Arkansas. The Democrats need to pick a southerner to win any of the southern states. Otherwise the Republicans will once again get a good majority of the states.

Believe it or not Rev, Edwards would probably have a better chance of being elected President under the Democrat platform than Kerry does. I can't for the life of me understand why the Democrats don't realize this.

Democrats aren't going to do well in the red states anyway, James. The battle is really over Florida and Ohio. Clinton can win those, especially if she's got Edwards for a running mate.

Your argument would make sense without the Electoral College, but as long as that system exists in its present form, the south is pretty much a lost cause for Democrats.

By the way, I saw two disapproval ratings for Bush today...54% and 56%. Well over half of Americans think he's doing a crappy job. If this keeps up, the Democrats could run Mary Jo Kopechne's (sp?) rotting corpse with Teddy Kennedy as Veep and win.

I wouldn't generalize that the Electoral College results in the south being a lost cause for the Democrats, Rev. Due to his popularity and some good policies (that was before the scandal) Clinton did fairly well in the 1996 election. He did take some of the southern states, and the south west. Here's a map ...

When A Democrat candidate could win a state like Tennessee, they could win any state, Rev (with the possible exception of Texas and perhaps Oklahoma). However, they need to get the right candidate. Looking in the deep south for a suitable candidate would be a good start.

That map is from before Bush polarised the country and Jesusland became a political reality, James. In fact, the map is almost a decade old.

Look at the last election. The next will be a re-match of that, but don't expect the Republicans to do so well next time out.

I disagree Rev. It all depends on the candidate. If the democrats pick a religious southerner that shares many of their views, they would have a good chance.
