G8/ G20 Meetings ...What do you think about them? ..Are the really necessary ?

Is the 1 billion dollar price tag worth it ? or just Conservative money diversion and Paranoia ?

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/g8-g20/news/g8g20-security-bill-to-approach-1-billion/article1580865/

Doesn't sound very conservative to me...

We are Canada home of the peaceful ...Why all the security ?

Metro - G20 security forces analyze bank firebombing, offer help to police investigators - Anarchists blow up Bank ...Hmmm ..

- Here's a tip .... Look for the guys wearing the black face masks...Might save a buck or two

Conspiracy theory --- I sometimes wonder if "The powers that be " and Undercover security workers don't just stir up all their own theatre to justify their relevance ...to Make a scene...You know ...as a detourant...yet at the same time "They" still want everyone to come...:?:8O

I wonder what would happen if activists /protesters and all the likes just never showed up at the G8/G20 meetings?.. Just boycotted the meetings altogether.?

Now That would make for some interesting news ..

Do Protests and these Big "G" meetings/ gatherings really ammount to anything substantial ?

What progress has ever come out of a G 8/ 20 meeting ?

And finally ....After everything ...Do "They" really care what the people think?

Stretch 's thread ...more specifically , The George Carlin stand up video he posted there, said it best ....

Why not put them on an aircraft carrier in the middle of some ocean, or Baffin Island. This is a stupid price, any breakdown on why it is so much more than the 'estimate' of just under $200 M? I would suggest we decline any further offers for about 20 years and longer if possible.

...or at least entrust it to a host without that people-pleaser need to impress. Who was it who gave out leather?

For a billion bucks we even get nothing about what the meetings were about. lol
Perhaps the closed door policy should come with the option to weld them closed permanently from the outside once they are all in.

The right loves to lavish money on law and order, and asks as few questions as possible because security is now the holiest of holies. Some restraint is necessary here for the proper running of government. Everyone is accountable.
If that billion was just for security what was the tab for the whole affair?

From what I understand, the bulk of that Billion will fund the imported
security forces from the nineteen other nations who will be attending
this G20 meeting...who will predominantly rely on their own people who
they bring with them.

Personally, I think this should be hosted at CFB Cold Lake, where
security is already very tight with controlled access to the base, and a
secluded location compared to Huntsville, Ontario. CFB Cold Lake
has it's own air strips, barracks, anti-aircraft capabilities, etc...

All these dignitaries can line up three times a day in the chow line with
their entourage, shoulder to shoulder with our armed forces personal.
If they need better chow, then it's supplied to the whole base and still
served in the same chow line to everyone. It's only for 72 hours. This
would also make a fantastic impression to everyone that thinks our
military consists of three canoes and a biplane.

If they want security, that's the place, and it could cost in less than a
Billion at that facility, under those conditions I would assume. No
worries about media or protesters there either.

We should put those icons out just to show we aren't dangerous.

Other than fuel and food it would be business as usual.

Leak a rumor that this is a major coup just to make the visit more exciting for the combatants ....... I mean guests.

As a Tax Payer, I like my idea. It doesn't disrupt an entire city, & the base would be
use to dealing with weird shyte. This would just be another bump in their schedule
and another "best behaviour" training exercize. It's a win-win situation.

Any Conservatives care to defend Harper's billion dollar cocktail party?

It's a great deal, wtf are you talking about lol

There was literally 40-50 cops at each intersection last night when I walked through the area. Had some renta-cop tell me it's illegal to take photos of the fence, asked him why and he said "cause the RCMP says so". Just shook my head and walked along.

China finally let the Yuan rise. In advance of the conference for whatever leverage.

The newly minted British government closed down the department in the Treasury dealing with interfacing the Euro... Could be interesting watching the crap fly.

Maybe some leaders had to get off their waffling and get something done.

Me, I'm going to have my popcorn with butter....

This could be raucous.
