It appears my kiss of death is still intact. France loses in the penalty shoot out.

Italy are the World Champions!!!!!

Italy 1-1 France

After extra time, Italy win 5-3 on penalties.

Zidane was an absolute disgrace by headbutting Materazzi in the chest, getting sent-off in his last international game by the same referee that sent Rooney off. Unlike Rooney's foul, it was not accidental, and it was good to see the Frogs lose in the end.

Italy - WORLD CHAMPIONS.

I can't believe Zidane did that. I wonder what Materazzi said to him to set him off? Not that it's any excuse for what he did...

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Frenchies.

There's only one thing that's as good as England winning the World Cup - and that's France being beaten in the Final.

You're going to have to hope that France gets beaten a lot then.

That happened right out of the blue didn't it. Until that happened Zidane was arguably Franc's best player.

It's still a shitty thing to lose because of one penalty kick.

Its a damn shame. I was more upset at work today than all the French guests!!!! Strange!!

Zidane is an idiot for losing his temper......apparently there was a racial comment involved that set him off. But who really knows besides him and the Italian......

Its a sad way to end his career though. Whats even sadder is that he wont be remembered for scoring in the first 4 minutes....he'll be remembered for headbutting the Italian.

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you really believe that? That Zidane will NOT be remembered for anything but the headbutt?

Personnally, I will remember him for scoring the goal - mimicking the cheap shot of C. Ronaldo, BTW. I have never watched the World Cup until this year, and what I saw about Zidane was pure magic with the ball, and a regret that I hadn't watched him during his prime. I will remember him for the goal against Portugal.

I will remember Henry trying to fight his way through tackles and staying on his feet to try and get a shot on goal - not diving like the sissie Italians. He surely would have been rewarded a penalty shot from the physical contact if the Italian player could draw a shot when he went out of his way to 'trip' over the Aussie. But, no, Henry played like a man ... and showed me why I disrespect the Italian players.

Also, was Zidane really an idiot? The guy was the picture of calm every other time he was on the screen. What could have been said, or what could have been done to rate this kind of reaction? I seriously doubt that he will ever say, and the Italian would never admit what he said or did to set Zidane off to that degree. And that is another reason for me to disrespect the Italians. Yes, the stakes are high, but is taunting another player an honourable way to win?

Oh well, it's over. Italians are recovering from their celebrations, and the French will get over their sorrow ... and I became a football fan.

I supported the French I must admit that, but I am not very sad that they did not win. I supported France because two of my idols are French - Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry. I think the two teams were pretty even and I will say that Italy was the luckier side and did therefore win. But that is how football is sometimes.
