The official ceremony inaugurating the new Canadian flag was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on February 15, 1965, with Governor General Georges Vanier, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, the members of the Cabinet and thousands of Canadians in attendance.

The Canadian Red Ensign, bearing the Union Jack and the shield of the royal arms of Canada, was lowered and then, on the stroke of noon, our new maple leaf flag was raised.

Ya know, it occurs to me that if you're really serious about trying to get a Public Holiday in February, "Flag Day" has a way better chance of flying than "Darwin Day"...

(Hey - Flag Day "flying" - I made a funnee!)

Thank Xena, somebody is staying on topic.

We already have a day for waving the flag though, Ten Packs...we call it Canada Day. We don't have a day for honouring science or officially affirming the separation between church and state.

We could make it a four-day weekend though. Why not celebrate Darwin Day on the Friday before the weekend and Flag Day the day after. That would give everybody a chance to get outside and go do whatever winter activity they pleased. It would also give a much-needed boost to the micro-breweries.

See...this whole thing evolved into a four day weekend and an economic plan. ;-)
