Political agendas, like those that lead a government or regime to censor data, news, or entertainment can have severe economic consequences. This frames our discussion today on some startlingly bad economic decisions surrounding the Marvel film phenomenon.
“Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has been making headlines, but not solely for its box office achievements. It’s been blocked by China’s film censors for a most unexpected reason: A newspaper box for The Epoch Times that appears in the corner of a street scene. It goes without saying that Epoch Times, due to its frank coverage of China, is no favorite of the Chinese Communist Party; but that’s only the latest of what’s had Chinese censors in a spin over Marvel.
