A recently estranged husband made his first court appearance in Gatineau Tuesday, charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his ex-wife and mother of five, Angela Distasio.
Alain Gascon, 49, of Quyon, appeared briefly, scanning the courtroom and eyeing his in-laws.
Short, with dark hair and a moustache, he was donning a red T-shirt, jogging pants, and flip-flops.
Lawyer, Marino Mendo, told reporters his client was upset and crying when they spoke.
Tears flowed, too, from Distasio’s side of the family, who did not address media after the proceedings.
Two days earlier, Gatineau Police were called to a Symmes Rd. apartment -– the home of one of the couple’s sons -- in Aylmer where a woman’s body was found around 8 p.m.
Distasio, 42, died in hospital early Monday.
Police will not comment on specifics surrounding her death, however, an autopsy was scheduled in Montreal on Tuesday.
