I can recall when I lived in Ottawa, it may have been in the 80's, and a young child went missing and eventually the body was found. Of course, since he was reported missing the news cameras where already parked outside the parents house. So when the police went in to, I believe, inform the mother for the first time, officially, that her child was dead, one of the cameras zoomed in to get a close up shot of this woman through the window. I was absolutely sickened at that when I was watching the news that evening. For the life of me I cannot remember this boy's name, the murders name, nor the particulars of the crime/case but that image is, in my mind, as if it happened yesterday.
The press is generally not known for their sensitivity. There is a difference between reporting what has happened and getting all the details, often there is no need for the public to know all the details. But it's a fine line.
