Drive-thru proposal at Tim Hortons

TORONTO - It’s a pretty serious question to ponder without even having had a morning cup of coffee first.
But Stephanie Pasternak didn’t hesitate to say “yes” when her boyfriend proposed to her through a drive-thru window at a Tim Hortons in North York last week.
“Stephanie’s not very predictable,” Jared Gaber told the Toronto Sun Tuesday. “But one thing you can count on is she’ll hit up the Timmies drive-thru on her way to the office.
“I was planning how I would propose, and this just seemed like it could work out.”
Gaber called Tim Hortons head office to get permission and work out some details.
“They were really cool about letting me do this, but all of the planning came from my end,” Gaber said.
Pasternak, a lawyer, pulled in to the drive-thru around 8:30 a.m. on her way to a meeting with a client last Thursday morning.
“Yeah, there was no client. I figured she would go to Tim’s beforehand, but to be sure, I had one of her co-workers call to ask Stephanie to pick up a coffee on the way in,” Gaber said.
He arrived at the outlet around 7 a.m. with a camera crew headed up by his good buddy Jesse Cappe of Big Ticket Productions.
“I wanted to capture this moment for us and Jesse’s work was just amazing. We’ll have it forever,” said Gaber, who works in marketing.
Gaber donned a headset and took Pasternak’s order, but as she drove up, she was shocked to see her boyfriend of just over a year at the pickup window.
“You’re the first woman I ever fell in love with and the last woman I ever wanted to be in love with. Will you spend the rest of your life with me?” Gaber said.
Pasternak responded with a yes and climbed out of the car to meet Gaber for a kiss, all captured on video.
Gaber posted the edited video to YouTube over the weekend, and it received close to 50,000 views in three days.
“It’s just amazing the response we’ve had from people. So much positivity from friends and strangers, sharing in our joy,” Pasternak said.
“People are calling it a very Canadian proposal, because of the association to Tim Hortons,” Gaber said. “But the reaction, the kindness from everyone, that’s the Canadian part to me.”
