Conspiracy theory 101

--- Note: Purely Hypothetical, no evidence ---

Everybody knows that Rogers has had it's problems in the past financially, big tip-off with the @home incident. Rogers doesn't want to crash and burn as it's been working on this enterprize for many years. They have many subsiduary companies, ought out smaller companys, and sold out services privatly to regain capital.

Theory goes like this:
Bell basically owns CRTC. Anything Bell wants CRTC, CRTC bends over for them, from outlawing foreign satellite (DirectTV, Dish, etc), and controlling the phone lines. Even though now private carriers can provide phone service, they still have to buy it from Bell (Ontario anyways, not sure how much further that monopoly spread).
When a Illegal US Dish "hacker is brought to court, can be guaranteed that a Bell rep is present, and probably the lawyers are partially covered by Bell.

Rogers had a competitive product that lured customers away from Bell HSE (and other private HSE ISP companies that purchased the DSL through Bell for their customers). Rogers is still hurting financially, and is scraping for any means to stay a float; cellular, internet, television (the bread and water).

The weak Rogers reps meet with the Bell reps over periods of time, devising a "silent merger". The two companies cannot combine in the public as another "Microsoft monopoly" incident would form, and the Gov't would have no choice but to step in.

Bell tell Rogers we'll share the technology, resources, etc., you all keep your high paying jobs, just play along with us.

They know that they have over %85 of the phone and internet and television market cornered between the two, they got CRTC in their back pocket, there's nothing to stop them from monopolizing the market.

They set out a test plan, equalize the internet so they're all the same, save Rogers a pile of cash for the lesser backbone bandwidth they require, charge the same as they did before. "What are the consumer going to do" they say, nothing, cause they can't.

The theory goes that this is the final step they took to see if anyone would notice. The first was the joint satellite sting, forcing the gov't to close down foreign satellite, second was the cellular/WAB; using the same towers. the final was adjusting the internet to it full finacial profitability with limited costs.

As the authour of this theory, I am rather scared to know what is next. Bill gates was a leader of one company that took over the world, I don't want to know what two huge companies can accomplish.

***** Very interesting theory I found. Tell me what you think ;)

Would never happen that way. They would not all keep there jobs, etc. A merger of the two would be massive and would cost a lot of jobs. So it would not be a pretty thing for the company being bought out, nor do I tink BCE has any interest in mergering with Rogers.

And Rogers has not been luring customers away from Bell. Ontario is one of the only places in the world where DSl users actually outnumber cable users. Rogers is a sinking ship Bell would buy out, not merge.

They are already owned by the US conglomerate led by Ted Turner, which in turn has merged and is owned by.... I forget the name of those guys... but, you DO know who I mean.

HAHAHAHAH... Sorry, I don't believe that for a second... The CRTC has strict rules on that... They might own some stock, but not majority.
