This is the second time I have seen an article on China telling Rome (could have been other countries too but can't remember)what to do. Seems to me that China is stirring more and more. The popular sentiment now is anti US. imo, China is going to be the next world power and again imo, I think I would rather have the US as the world power than a communist(?) world power. I think the last para of the article says everything about attitude.

"China considers Taiwan part of its territory waiting to be reunified, by force if necessary"

If you want to do something about China Stop buying made in China products ,If just 20% of us did that and bought made in North America our economies would pick up and have more employment. Our leaders are selling us down the river. They want a strong China so the wages here are forced down so we can compete with them :x That way their corprate buddys can make more money from us.

Umm mrmom this isn't the direction that I was going with the thread but more to world power - as in what the US is. You know, the 'big boss' type thing.

On the topic of sell out tho. I agree that we should have made in our own country - either Cdn or US but especially Cdn for me as I am Canadian. imo, the unions and corporate greed are the two main factors for labour outside of country. I would really like to be able to buy 'made in Canada' but in addition to being hard to find, pricing is the real reason that I don't buy. Like books and magazines. ie book, $15 US 23 Cdn, No thank you. Also, I get so fed up with cost that has no relation to quality. I read an article, sorry no link or anything other to refer to and I hope I am remembering it rightly, that went on about how cheap outside labour is beneficial to our economy and that if it was eliminated there would be world economic collapse. It sort of made sense because the sell out has been for too long.
On the same issue of labour. Labour is imported (immigrant)which should be stopped but this can only be done when Cdns who feel they are too good to do menial labour are forced off their backsides and put to work but even if they could which would be against their civil liberties, there would be the unions to contend with.
Sorry about the confused rant

China forgets manners as Rice visit touches nerves

"How come the United States selects a female chimpanzee as Secretary of State?"

"This black woman thinks rather a lot of herself."

"She's so ugly she's losing face. Even a dog would be put off its dinner while she's being fed."

The 5000 years of civilisation on which the Chinese pride themselves were not so evident
this week in the comments on Condoleezza Rice's visit to Beijing posted on the internet site "New Tide Net".

Gee and did not Rome try to tell Spain what to do about SSM? Rome tries to tell other countries what to do on many many occasions. I am glad in a way China is telling Rome what to do. Rome or the pope do not run the world and "god" help us if they did.

My apologies then.:)

With reguards to that Link you supplied, I think China is treating The Vatican like any other nation in the world that says Taiwan is a seperate country.

Whether Taiwan is a seperate country or not. (a matter of opinion, depending who one talks to)

China just wants other leaders/ countries to acknowledge the fact Taiwan just another Chinese province, not an independant country.

Is that were you were trying to go with this?

Guess I picked a poor example to show what I was trying to say.

"China considers Taiwan part of its territory waiting to be reunified, by force if necessary, since the two sides split in 1949 at the end of a civil war."

This is more what I was getting at and in addition to assimilation I get the impression that (including the rest of the article) they are telling the rest of the world to stay out. Something along the lines of China assimilating Hong Kong after the British moved out.

I think China is going to be the next world power.

I don't know if we really need to fear them, though. They have shown a strong move towards integrating into the world economy. Starting a conflict will bring this to a full stop, and dry up the foreign capital China needs to develop.

Might just be sabre rattling.

Yes, China does have a big problem with racial stereotyping. And many aren't even aware of their racism, or that it's even a problem. Even some well respected institutions here will sometimes be blatantly racist without even being aware that it is racism! Might I add that some foreigners in China can sometimes be racist too, so when I say racism in China, I'm not referrring to the Chinese exclusively, but just racism in China in general. In fact, some foreign employers will go with it too, instead of setting an example.

But on the plus side, some in China, both locals and foreigners, are actively trying to educate the public about this, so I'm optimistic that as the public becomes more aware of what racism is, beyond just what they learn about slavery in the US (which is generally their concept of racism), things will improve.

And as for the Vatican, would you appreciate it if the Vatican stuck its nose in Quebec affairs in support of Quebec sovereignty? Same thing.

With that, I do agree. Its internal affairs. If Québec seperates from Canada, I don't want other countries getting involved. Its an internal affair, leave them alone.
