If the floodlights fail during a game next season then at least Chelsea's players will be able to see each other - as their new away shirts are GLOW IN THE DARK.

The new shirts were chosen by the West London team's Russian owner Roman Abramovich who was impressed by Barcelona's bright yellow away shirts last season

Chelsea finished second in the Premiership this year behind Manchester United, after winning the championship for two years in a row in 2006 and 2005

Also, The Sun tells you how you can make your own new Chelsea kit that is much cheaper than the proper one......

BRIGHT START ... Chelsea's top

CHELSEA’S secret new away kit has been leaked, a week ahead of its official launch.

The fluorescent electric yellow shirt was due to be unveiled at a high-profile event at Stamford Bridge a week tomorrow.

The club have been revealing tantalising glimpses of the dazzling new adidas strip for the past week in the build-up to next Thursday’s launch.

Yet in spite of strict security since John Terry, Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba, Joe Cole, Petr Cech, Arjen Robben and Ashley Cole posed for photographs at the club’s Cobham training ground in April, pictures have already appeared on a fans’ website.

The luminous electric yellow shirt was chosen by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who likes Barcelona’s bright orange away jerseys.

Supporters will not be able to buy the new kit until June 28.

And Blues players will wear the glowing jersey for the first time fora friendly against Suwon Blue-wings in Los Angeles on July 17.

The new away shirt will cost at least £30 with the entire strip setting supporters back a minimum £58.

FOOTIE idols Chelsea yesterday launched their new away strip for next season and it doesn’t come cheap.

The fluorescent yellow Adidas kit costs a wallet-emptying £70 — £39.99 for the shirt, £19.99 for the shorts and £9.99 for the socks.

But you could make your own, like the one above right, for less than a tenner — just follow the simple instructions below.

Buying the official outfit for your kids may make your eyes water but safety experts say it might keep them safe.

Dianne Ferreira, spokeswoman for road safety charity BRAKE, welcomed the controversial colour.

She said: “From a road safety point of view this is great news.

“Luminous clothing like this will make them more visible to other users and therefore less likely to be hit by cars.”

Yellow fever ... make your own strip using steps 1-4 below

STEP 1: Buy a plain neon yellow T-shirt for about six quid at any sports shop and dig out an old pair of black shorts.

STEP 2: Cut pieces of yellow reflective strips, around £4 from cycle shops, to the required size for the shorts.

STEP 3: Customise the shorts using the strips you’ve prepared – use a suitable type of glue – and you’re nearly there!

STEP 4: Use a black marker pen to draw on the logos and other markings and you’re ready for the big kick-off.
