Cencorship By Canadian Media

Just got an e-mail forwarded by friends in the local farming community and apparently Canadian radio stations have refused to run a series of ads created by a farmers' market group encouraging Canadians to support their local farmer. That's what we get for having such a concentration of ownership. I don't know what to do but first thing I'll be doing is phoning my MLA in the morning!!

Have you listened to the ads, Vanni? I'm all for supporting local farmers and local businesses, but if I were a programmer I'd insist they were redone professionally before I put them on the air. Right now they are an invitation to switch the station.

There was another post here the other night. It had a link. I can't find the post now though. I asked who never accepted the ads, but the guy never answered.

I got one of these e-mails too. Seems to be getting more then a few people up in arms. According to one of the "forwarders" the sight put up rough mock-ups of the ads since the media refused the concept. The site is canadasfarmersmarket.com.

I still want to know what media refused the ads. It's a reasonable cause...buy local. Something I've been behind for years. The ads were really bad though.

Even though they were bad, which I agree with, the cause was right.

The production quality was bad for sure. The content needs some polish, but I like the way the message is delivered as a subtle slap in the face unlike the straight punch to the jaw many media blitzs try to hit us with. They actually make you think a little. Even unplugged - which was absolutely horrible!!

I still want to know who said no and what reasons were given though. If they just wanted to redo the ads, that's not a no. I also know that there are some copy writers around, one of them award-winning, that come from farming backgrounds and would likely be happy to work on a campaign like this one. I'll bet you could find real actors the same way.
