After Farzan Naghipour’s cat was shot and seriously injured last week, he heartbreakingly agreed to give ownership of the cat to a Scarborough vet,

Naghipour said that he couldn’t afford the medical bills and the vet agreed to tend to injured Milow if he relinquished ownership of the feline.

“He needs treatment so I had to hand him over,” he added. “Because he is part of the family, I have to do everything in my power to get him what he needs first and then worry about getting him back home.”

The two-year-old Bengal breed cat, which has been with Naghipour’s family since the age of three months, was shot last Tuesday with what is believed to be a high-powered air rifle.

Milow had been missing for most of the day and came home through a cat door in the evening and collapsed.

“He was hurt, had a mark. I rushed him to the animal hospital and an X-Ray found there was a (projectile) inside him that travelled through him and hit his liver and just missed his heart,” Naghipour said.

“I’m speechless and don’t understand how someone could do that. My wife and son are heartbroken. There are so many tears.”

Milow is expected to recover, but at the end of the day, the vet’s bills will be thousands of dollars and Naghipour doesn’t have the money.

“We would love to provide free vet care, but if we did that, we would be out of business in a week,” said Denise Angus with the Kingston Road Animal Hospital, which raised $350 for Milow’s care after they took possession of the cat.

Milow will be at the animal hospital for at least six weeks.

Angus said the hospital’s first choice would be for the Naghipour family to get Milow home.

“We have to do what we have to do, but we will work with them at every point,” Angus said.

The Naghipours say they plan to fund raise to bring Milow home.

The animal rights group, PETA, is on record saying people shouldn’t own a pet unless they have savings for emergency vet bills.

Police are conducting an animal cruelty investigation and are asking anyone with information to call 416-808-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-(TIPS) 8477.

My God this group is so ignorant!

Who the hell has a contingency fund for the cost of their cat being shot?

Sounded like you were dismissing their ignorance.
I am. I have before me ample evidence that there is absolutely no correlation between the sheer stupidity of a policy and the likelihood that it will prevail. So tactically, I ask myself "what is the likelihood that Group X will get their policy enforced to the point that it becomes an inconvenience to me?" Nothing to do with whether the policy is well-informed or not, because as I said, that has nothing to do with its power.

In the case of PUTOP (People for the Unethical Treatment of Other People), the answer to my question is "Very low." So I don't spend much of my limited time or even more limited stash of outrage on 'em.

Yeah.

Okay.

Now I know you're a lawyer.

You forgot "hypocritical."

"According to published records from the Virginia Department for Agriculture and Consumer Services, the organization euthanized 1,675 of the 1,877 animals in its care in 2012, including 602 dogs and 1,045 cats."

They can't be wasting money on shelter animals for goodness sakes! They need that cash to fly Pamela Anderson around the country!!!
