Awesome. Now if they would just crack down on the exorbitant spending of Senators, Cabinet Ministers and MPs we might get somewhere.

It raised the idea of whether the Crown could be prosecuted by the institutions it helped to create, and whether it was actually appropriate for a democratic institution to punish a figure who is constitutionally mandated to keep it in check and prevent abuses.

The checks and balances work both ways. The crown and its designates are there to keep parliament in line (in which unfortunately it fails miserably by allowing legislation counter to the Constitution) and parliament is to keep the crown in line ar per the clause in the Magna Carta allowing the Barons to remove the King/Queen.

As for this criminal trying to use royal privilege well good luck with that. She is not a royal so why would the privilege apply. I am of the belief that in this day and age there should be no privilege at all. If Chuck wants to commit fraud he should be prosecuted just like any other. We have created a society based on equality under the law and giving a few inbred idiots a free pass just because they usurped the British throne a few generations back is ridiculous. We should just tear down the monarchy completely and divide 95% of their assets (which came from the people anyway) amongst the population.

I really hope this woman gets the book thrown at her. It is time we started giving the most severe punishments available to these white-collar crooks in the public sector to teach the rest not to do it.

About the pay and expenses of MP's, Senators, and Cabinet Ministers. Lets sort out
some of this.

The Senate lets scrap it, all it is, is an old age home for faithful followers of former leaders.
You do know how they are paid right? They go through the chamber with a magnifying glass
they put it under the nose of the sleeping senator if it fogs up they know he is breathing and
they write the check.

MP's most of those guys do a good job, they are away from family and the life they are used
to. In addition travel is required. If they spent all their time in Ottawa we would complain they
are not in their riding listening to voters, if they spend all their time in the Riding we would
complain they are not in the House taking our issues forward. I have a Tory elected in my
riding. I don't care for the Tories, but this guy has always called me back and always did what
he said he would do taking my issue forward. To be fair I don't mind he spends some money
at least he is trying to do his job to the best of his ability.

Cabinet Ministers. These folks regardless of party are often between a rock and a hard place.
If they take faster more expensive modes of travel for legitimate purposes we complain, if he
take slower modes of travel and things don't get done in a timely fashion we complain.
The problem comes with a culture of entitlement after a while that is where the problems come
from. Citizens see only the abuses and not the legitimate side of things.
How do we know our reps are doing not too bad of a job? We don't have revolutions and
political executions and our halls of institutions are stable, when they go all to hell we know
government is not working.
We have some right to whine a little but by and large Canadians don't have that much to complain
about when we look around. We don't have to shell out for bribery, we don't have people thrown
in prisons where we don't know what happened to them. there are no mass graves of those who
disagreed with government. I think we are lucky to be here. Now if we can just get rid of Harper
things would be great. See as Canadians we get rid of governments we don't elect them to power.
