Smokey Smith in 1944
Smith, who served with Vancouver's Seaforth Highlanders, won the Commonwealth's highest award for military heroism for his actions during a battle to establish a bridgehead over the Savio River in Italy in 1944.

He was the real definition of a hero. Even though he did not like the term. I was away fishing but I recorded the funeral. I thought it was a great tribute to the man.

Did you know wether you are a private or any rank wearing the VC, generals on down have to salute you first (instead of you saluting them first and officer saluting back) if you are wearing the Victoria Cross? I never knew that until I watched funeral.
