WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush defended embattled Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Monday, saying the Pentagon chief was doing "a really fine job."

Bush answered indirectly when asked at a news conference about his view of Rumsfeld's use of a mechanical device to sign letters of condolence to military families. That practice drew criticism from lawmakers of both parties, and Rumsfeld has since dropped it.

The president did not directly offer his opinion of Rumsfeld's practice, but said, "I have heard the anguish in his voice and seen his eyes when we talk about the danger in Iraq and the fact that youngsters are over there in harm's way. And he's a good, decent man. He's a caring fellow."

RE: Bush Comes to Rumsfel

I don't think Rummy will be dropped at all, but even if he is officially sent packing he'll still be pulling levers from behind the curtain.

Bush can't run the show without criminals around him, Rick. Rumsfeld is very important for the american criminal activities that are happening in Iraq and elsewhere in the world. Remember that Rumsfeld is the one who planned the war invasion.

I remember when the war had just began:

They blamed the insurgency on former Sadddam loyalists and told everyone "not to worry" .... when we get all those faces on the playing cards, problem solved!

Then it was, "After we get Saddam's family" everything will settle down.

Then it was ... "After we get the Serian's to leave", then we will be in control.

Then it was .... "It's that damn guy Zarkawi" (or whatever) ..... After we find him .... game over.

Then it was .... "Not to worry, we just gotta get this election off the ground".

Soon it will be ..... "We got too much invested, we can't leave".

Americans are a proud people. They are not about to admit defeat easiy. They have all pledged the "Oath Of Allegience" since childhood. So .... the media needs to spoon-feed "defeat" to the average American.

I listened to Bush yesterday .... he is already saying "Just because elections take place in January, does not mean that the violence will stop". He is already setting the American people up for another defeat.

And .... Americans have O.D.'d on Cheerios since childhood .... they are not gonna let a bunch of "Arabs" defeat them.

But, like when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, the resistance found more accurate weapons. It took 3 or 4 years and soon they had shoulder-fired missles. The same thing is gonna happen in Iraq.
This morning a "tent city" for American personnel was hit "directly" and from at least 6 miles away.
Americans are quickly becoming sitting ducks!
Every day that passes leaves opportunity for the resistance and accuracy of attacks.
That is what drove the Soviets out of Afghanistan.
