Today on CBC’s Newsworld I heard the big news that our conservative government has stepped up and committed three billion Canadian bucks to save our auto industries and I am talking about our automakers south of the border that make cars and trucks here in Canada.
Our Canadian government is buying jobs so that the carmakers can continue to make vehicles that no one wants to buy in this country.
Canadians are buying more dependable cars made here in Canada by foreign carmakers.
Toyota and Honda are not asking for bail out money because they are cashing in on quality made, energy efficient care manufactured here in Canada that people are buying instead the junk cars that are made in Oshawa, Oakville and Windsor.
I understand that there will be a lot of strings attached to the money but if Stephen Harper wants this to be successful then he should consider have these carmakers custom manufacture a Canuck mobile or a uniquely Canadian car that can make Canadian buyer proud.
We got one of the best schools in Canada for auto design and for part of this money our government will be spending for the bail out they can utilize them.
Years ago the possibility of a Canadian owned car plant that would design and be built by Canadians was talked about but when the big three auto makers heard of this they banded together and told the Canadian government that if this comes about then they would close all three auto plants and move it south of the border.
The government caved and killed the idea the same way they killed another potentially successful project the super sonic jet fighter the Arrow.
For less than a billion dollars one could design a car and a utility truck and Canadians would buy it just because it would be a Canadian brand.
In other countries that have their own manufactured cars the competition has car-making plants there as well so the threat of existing carmakers moving away would be non-existent.
