Brison Joins Leadership Race

The Honourable Scott Brison, P.C., M.P., the Member for Kings—Hants and the Environment Critic for Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, is now a contestant in the race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. He joins six other persons in the race, which is to result in the election of the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada some time in December.

Mr. Brison left the Conservative Party of Canada only weeks after his Progressive Conservative Party of Canada had merged with the Canadian Alliance. Mr. Brison joined the Liberal Party of Canada, describing the new Conservative Party as a "right-wing debating club". After the election in 2004, the Right Honourable Paul Martin, P.C., M.P., the Member for LaSalle—Émard, made Mr. Brison the Minister of Public Works and Government Services — becoming the first openly gay Cabinet member of the Government of Canada in the nation's history.

The [color=red said:

"It means I can serve the country I love as a member of Parliament, as a cabinet minister and even as a leader, while being open and honest about who I am as a person," he said.

Scott Brison would probably make a good leader. Since he is openly gay and has alot of innovative ideas, he might change the way of thinking in the House of Commons.

I would support Mr. Brison in a leadership race (not just because he's gay, just to be quite clear, lol). I think he has a younger, fresher way of thinking than many of the other stuffed puppets in the House of Commons. I think that he had good reasons to cross those many years ago, so I would have no reservations about voting for him.

Daz_Hockey, I'm not sure; the name of the riding is Kings—Hants, and I don't know if that's a short form for anything.

Finder, why do you think it will insure another Conservative victory?

I agree with Finder, and I, personally, hope that Brison finishes dead last. His comments about Alberta and Albertans after the 2004 election, where he said, and I paraphrase, that he was very happy to have liberals elected in the Maritimes to offset the hicks and rednecks from that backward Alberta province were a real eyeopener about the thought process of Scott Brison. Those comments, frankly, were extremely distateful, and any respect I may have had for him went totally out the window. Whether he is gay or not is immaterial, but to describe one province and its citizens like that means he has no business becoming leader of a supposed national party. He is a disgrace, in my opinion, and I hope that some member of the press questions him about those comments, although we all know the bias the press has in favor of the left wing politicians.

What's up with everyone thinking all of the media leans towards the left?

Well the left thinks the media leans right and the right thinks it leans left of course. Don't you know we are all victoms. But the media in Canada and the USA always leans towards coperate interests first anyhow.

Anyhow back to MP Brison. One he is a controversial figure which some Canadians xp out west and even traditionalist around the nation just wouldn't get. As what was already said he has said colourful things about many political figurers and the west. I think Bob Rae would be a smarter choice and he's pretty low on my list too. However I highly doubt MP Brison will garner many delegates to achieve the leadership, plus I'm pretty sure the centre left of the the party will return to power in the Liberals. The Liberal stragity is to both show that they are different from the Conservatives, and to give progressive voters a real reason to vote for them and make them not even think of the NDP. If they go towards the right all they can hope for is to take votes away from the Conservatives and hope they don't lose too many votes to the NDP.

Brison himself represents the economic right wing of the Liberal party.

Kings-Hants is my riding, and no... it is not short for anything. It is the name of two counties: Kings and Hants. I've met Scott Brison on several occasions, even had a beer with him at a local bar during one of his campaign stops this past election. He's a good man: extremely well spoken, professional, and very receptive to questions and criticism (keep in mind this is coming from a chick who hates the liberal party). He stopped at Acadia to answer questions for an hour and I really grilled him on everything from his stance on marijuana to the sponsorship scandal. I also was very upfront on my dis gust with Liberal entitlement and arrogance. Believe me, I showed no mercy but Brison impressed me very much. I told him this at the end of our discussion and he actually laughed and gave me a hug. I need to say, the dude won me over. (Though in the end I still voted for the Green party.)

That being said, I would be extremely surprised if Brison won this leadership race. He is too surrounded by scandal and controversy at this point. Then again, my preferred choice would be Carolyn Bennett-- and SHE probably won't make it past first ballot so...

Sorry for the double post, I just thought of something brilliantly hilarious... or at least in my mind it is.

Brison should use the Tragically Hip Song '38 years old' as his campaign song. He is 38, afterall, and the Hip are as Canadian as you get.

"he's 38 years old, never kissed a girl" ;)
