Just to start this thread off, read this article. It's American, but the framing it refers to is the thing that right-wing think tanks like the Fraser Institute are doing in conjunction with the Conservatives and the right side of the Liberal Party.
The thing is that politics has become a high stakes game. I think I described it as a cross between a hockey fight and a NASCAR crash on here someplace. That's a good analogy, I think, because sports are zero sum, win/loss events. They are not about making things better for everyone, but imposing the dominance of your team over the other team.
It's a bizarre and unhealthy way to run a country, but it's what we've got and it's given us framing, branding, and so much constant spin from men in suits that a lot people have become disenfrachised.
