OPP's Brad Blair (CNW Group/Ontario Provincial Police)
An Ontario Provincial Police deputy commissioner alleges Doug Ford has defamed him and has taken the first steps toward suing the premier.
Lawyers for Brad Blair allege that Ford defamed the high-ranking OPP officer by publicly accusing him of breaking the Police Services Act — a law that govern the conduct of officers.
Blair’s lawyers further allege Ford’s comments are meant to intimidate him after the officer complained about the hiring process for the new OPP commissioner.
Blair has launched a legal challenge in an attempt to force Ontario’s ombudsman to probe the hiring of long-time Ford family friend and Toronto police Supt. Ron Taverner as the province’s new top cop.
The notice of intent to sue for defamation was served last month after Blair’s lawyers say repeated letters to clarify if Blair was under a Police Services Act investigation went unanswered by the government.

The premier’s office say Ford will respond to any legal proceedings through his counsel if necessary.
