An 11-year-old boy who was carrying an OWL through a town centre was set upon by a gang of teenagers who tried to steal it by spraying him with silly string.
Lancashire Police are appealing for information over the bizarre incident, which happened Morecambe on Saturday sometime between 3pm and 4pm.
The boy was walking with a friend and the owl near Pound Fever in Euston Road when they were approached by a large group of teenagers.
The group, who were aged in their mid-teens, began to spray them both with silly string.
The victims ran away but the teenagers gave chase, punching one of the boys in the face, though he was not seriously hurt.
Police believe the group may have been trying to steal the owl.
PC Ben (Captain Obvious) Hanley said: “This is an unusual incident."
