the man made lake Pend d Orielle, bordering Washington state and BC Canada, will have 200,000 pounds of 2, 4-D and Sonar chemical poured into it this summer, it has allready begun. They are trying to control the milfoil.

It is a corporate favor, to DOW, where DOW sells these chemicals for a fat profit, depsite the other options for milfoil control being far better. Various government officials are getting it done for DOW, and no doubt getting a bit of their own.

Canadian officials don't seem to know a thing about it!! I mailed the MP for my areas, Alex Atamanenko, MP for Southern Interior BC, and he is asking authorites the hard questions right now.

This lake is acessable from my side of the border, about 40 km from where I live.

I fish and swim there, yet no signs are posted warning of possible exposures, as they do not consider it a health hazard, as per FDA regulations. BAH!!!

options for milfoil control include harvesting it for cattle feed or biomass fuel, natural predators of it like certain fish, and of course natural toxicants that do no do such harm to the other live there.

Its not that these options are more expensive, its that DOW would not get a penny of profit if the options were used, and therefore the governor of Washington would not get anything either

Canadian officials are likely just left out of the loop - permission was never asked for from our side despite the shared waters. The USA may have shut them up, and out, with threats of softwood issues, etc.

I detestith thith!!

They started on July 10th. They are releasing the Sonar on July 10, July 24 and Aug 7th over 2000 acres and the 2,4-D is being applied starting July 17th at 100-120 pounds per acre, over 2000 acres.

And this from Dr. Len Horowitz:
(EPA) and Interior Department. Proud prostitutes for a cadre of chemical company campaign contributors Rep. Anderson and friends say the only way to attack aquatic Milfoil is to dump 200,000 pounds of Dow Chemical's 2,4-D (a relative of Agent Orange), and the equivalent of the toxic liquid herbicide, Sonar, into waterways that flow to Canada, Washington State, and the Columbia River.

Leslie Marshall, director of the Bonner County Public Works Department, likewise engaged in the conspiracy to defraud the public by repeatedly misrepresenting 2,4-D and Sonar as "harmless" (a claim not even their manufacturers make), is also guilty of malicious mischief. Legally defined as "intentionally destroying another's property," beginning July 10, 2006, Marshall will administer lethal pollutions to 4,000 acres of waterfront real estate. Her official malfeasance lies in grossly neglecting and rejecting far safer, less costly, and equally effective alternatives including the local-harvesting of milfoil to produce chicken/cattle feed and/or composted fertilizer.

- sorry, I cant find a link to Dr. Horowitz' sites with this article.
