Former world and Canadian heavyweight boxing champion Trevor Berbick was found dead Saturday morning in his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica, with chop wounds to his head in an apparent homicide, police said.

That's sad. But he's guaranteed fame forever. Quite an accomplishment to outlast Ali in the great fighter's last prize appearance.
Reading of Berbick's legal problems one can't wonder why so many fighters experience similar problems in their lives.

Is it remotely possible that training people to beat others severely is possibly setting them up for future problems? Another possibility is that the brain damage takes over.

Quite possibly! But it does stain the sport. Top fight families in both Quebec and Ontario have had members incarcerated for serious crimes. It must be demoralizing for the families involved and for those who love the sport.
