Why are you always trying to ruin things for me "Why don't we print a catalogue of Ghomes" are you drinking again at work. I am not going to dignify that with an answer

Oh come on, you love your gnomes. Well, it was just a little mundane thought to get me through the afternoon.

Gnomes are the cement preview of our lives.

And double hey, I didn't see any gnomes in the latest LV catalogue. I saw some pretty funky garden clogs, but no gnomes.

Haggis, you weren't looking hard enough. they were peeking out from the bottom of the page...... I swear LV has always sold quality gnomes.

I will go back and find those subversive little buggers. They must have been in stealth mode when I first skimmed through. LV gnomes, that has to be something special, they probably walk, talk and wash dishes. If I wasn't already married, I'd probably marry one.

Did anybody see the movie Amelie (sp?)? There's a well-traveled gnome in that movie, a very funny story behind it. Good movie anyway, even aside from the gnome.

My ex mother in law might qualify as a gnome.

Of course, if youre looking for quality.....you might want to stick with the catalogue version.

Also, she's high maintenance.

Eats like a horse.

I definitely prefer little bearded guy gnomes. They have a certain out of this world kitschy charm.

Mother-in-law from hell, eh? Lot of those running around. I wonder why women turn into Foaming Beasts from Hell when they become mothers-in-laws?

Hey-- my ex MIL does have a beard!

Insofar as MIL's go, Ive come to believe that nice ones are nice to begin with and not so nice ones are not so nice to begin with.

I suspect youll be a good one.

Of course, judgement is out till we all have dinner and hear me ring my bells.

!! Would you stop making me laugh, my insides are hurting from it. Now I'm going to go to bed with visions of Dr. Research on the table, veils asunder, wiggling and waggling, and ringing those bells.

Re dinner, my you are a shameless one. I like that in a person.

Re my being a good MIL, thank you. I sure hope so. I have let it be known that we love seeing them whenever, but only when they WANT to see us, never when they feel obliged to see us. I hate that, the whole obligation thing. It sucks.

Anyway, he seems to love being around here, which is nice. He is a good guy, and I don't plan to mother him. Maybe that is part of the solution, too many people feel they are suddenly parents of the new son or daughter in law, somehow giving them the right to give reams of boring advice and disapproval. I don't even think parents should tell their own adult offspring what to do, much less tell the in-law son/daughter.

I should head off to bed, I want to read my David Sedaris book and haven't had much chance. Goodnight!

Good Morning, haggis!

I think you hit the nail on the head when you referred to 'giving advice'.

I think inlaws get into trouble with unsolicited well intentioned 'advice' and intervention.

Lets face it-- marriage is also a skill. No one gets its right from day one-- it is an accumulation of time and mistakes, trial and error. There are no free rides, no one gets a free pass, etc.

We all go through the process, we learn as we go, we stumble at times and build at others.

Its a process we all need to go through-- the process itself.

No shortcuts, no matter how well intentioned, work. If the young marrieds come and agree to solicit advice, thats one thing.

Otherwise, nature as they say, must take its course.

Good morning everybody! This will be quick this morning, our daughter is coming over and she, myself and the dog are going 4' by'ing. Good way to use a work day, in my opinion.

What you say is very true, Research, and there is one other aspect of it. There is an underlying sense of superiority that is felt by the other when you dump advice on them, for it is the assumption that you, in all your wisdom, know what is best.

My parents were very cool about such things, from the time we were adults they not only didn't give unsolicited advice, they were highly reluctant to give advice even when requested, for they would simply say that we were intelligent adults, and there was no doubt that we would figure out what was best for us.

They were right, and it 'empowered' us. Ack! I hate it! I hate that word 'empowered'! And I just used it in a sentence! I leave, mortified.

I bought, that orginal ab belt workout thingy. Totally wasn't what I expected. You had to buy gel for it and the things only had a limited life. So the ones they send you may last about a year. Also the battery life wasn't very long.

Ok, when u used it on a setting which was supposed to be good for you (the lower ones they say don't do anything but massage the mucles) it feels like your being punched, punched hard. Also you feel it on different types of uses that it's jabbing you with fingers and deep. It really didn't feel too good and the pain is unbarable to stand for the amount of time they say you have to use it. I didn't really see any differences as I used it.

I also bought that citrus hair removal product. I used it and it made my nipples bleed, it stung like hell and then it mademy body turn red and parts of my skin bleed. When I tried to wash it off, (it says your not supposed to but it was burning) it burned even more as I washed it off. Yeah it took about 1-2 weeks to heal.

RE: As seen on TV Product

I think it depends people's view about those kind of products. Someone think as seen on tv products are overpriced, someone like those kind of products.

I wonder how many sales those kind of products generate when they display ads on cable tv?

I was at a Mall store that sells only products advertised on TV..a good thing to have as you can see the crappy products without paying for them. The Gazelle exercise machine[supposed to hold over 300 pounders] looked like it would crumble if little old 200 pound me got on it. Ihad bought the pasta pot set and it broke during the first use.

The parabolic ariel gets you many new channels you never had before. The picture was wonderful and it was only $19.99 With three button settings and a dish to catch the signals. My hubby said hey this is great. Well not so great it was no more than a $9.00 set of rabbit ears. With three pieces of tape a different color for the wonderful control buttons. Did hubby learn his lesson? Oh well Barnum said best.

I bought Chef Tony's Miracle Blade III knife set from the informercial, but only after the Shopping Channel started offering it.

I have to say they are by far the best knives I have owned. Very sharp, and well priced for a (then) university student like myself. The best part was they gave 4 steak knives/utility knives, which I use constantly (probably twice each daily). The downer is that 2 of them have broken in the past 4 years, but since they're apparently covered under the knife set's lifetime warranty, they have been replaced for free (and the company that replaces them is even in Canada!). Pretty impressed.

Frankly though, I work in an electronics shop, so I see more than enough of cheaply built garbage to make me shy away from most anything on TV.
