And I blame the media for perpetuating it. In the 70s I remember the media actually checked the facts of a story before taking it to air. Not anymore apparantly. And if one outlet reports it, everybody just repeats it without doing any confirmations themselves figuring by saying "Fox reports" or "CNN reports" that they are off the hook for journalistic integrity (excuse the oxymoron).

At the time the Constitution was written every American owned a gun or rifle. None of our Founders thought it necessary or desirable to abdicate one's personal responsibility for the safety of their home, family, or community. It was not then (nor today) a court's duty to ''protect'' society. As I have written before, there was NO police force in NYC until 1825 - well after almost all of our Founders were dead.

The right to keep and bear arms ''shall NOT be infringed''. Our Founders clearly intended to require each of us to protect ourselves and communities. The courts are there to mete out justice, not protection.
