It's to bad that four police officers were executed and Maher Arar was unjustly treated by the Americans on the basis of faulty info from the RCMP. That's water over the dam and other than the monetary "fix" possible to Arar and the surviving families there's little else that can be done. I've maintained for very long time that the RCMP and CSIS are if not outright corrupt as well as totally inept, that the leadership of both and the federal ministers responsible should be scrupulously examined. Just as our governments are corrupt and malfeseance accepted as "normal", federal agencies given the authority under Canada's knee-jerk reaction to 9/11are poorly led, poorly informed and poorly administrated. The preparedness of Canadians to forgo acknowledging the dire state of Canadian policing and politics won't care until the suit settlements are made but that's typically Canadian...Dollars are far more important to Canadians than are concepts like justice freedom and quality of life. We'll continue to see death and grave injustices manifested through a system that Canadians are too busy "consuming" to bother taking the time to care about.
Once again....
We have the government we deserve and the federal policing we deserve...
Canada is a joke!
