Anyone Watch "Most Haunted"?

I watch Most Haunted. I've got almost every episode from Series One to Series Six on DVD. I think most of the hauntings and paranormal occurences are genuine but I'm not sure about medium Derek Acorah. The skeptical parapsychologist Dr Ciarán O'Keeffe, who appears on the show, has actually caught Derek out on a few occasions, proving that Derek isn't as genuine as he sometimes seems.

On the episode when the team went to the spooky 18th Century Bodmin Gaol in Cornwall, Derek got "possessed" (as he often does) by a ghost called Kreed Kafer, who he said was a South African gaoler who once worked there. Whilst "possessed" by this bad spirit, Derek got angry with crew members, and prowled around the room they were in violently knocking over furniture.

In fact, it turned out that "Kreed Kafer" was a name that that Ciarán O'Keeffe invented himself. It is actually an anagram for "Derek Faker".

In other episodes, he also was "in touch" with the spirits of 'Rik Eedles' (an anagram of 'Derek lies'), and 'Ged Harken' ('hang Derek').

Ciarán O'Keeffe claims that these names were given to Acorah just before the cameras rolled, or mentioned in his earshot by other crew members before the shoot (pretending that they didn't know that Derek could hear them). The names were subsequently incorporated into Acorah's 'possession'.

Further controversy centred again in the West Country, this time in Devon. On the first night filming "Terror in Torbay", Derek mentioned a woman incarcerated by her jealous sister in the cellar of Lupton House, even coming up with the names Margaret and Eleanor. In this case, the facts were right, but the location was wrong. This is the well-known legend of Berry Pomeroy Castle which was to be the last night's location. On the final night, at Berry Pomeroy, Yvette reminded Derek that he had mentioned the incarcerated sister two nights prior, yet Derek glossed over his mistake and changed the subject.

According to eyewitnesses, the urn used in the live show supposedly had a barcode on it.

But all this doesn't mean that the hauntings aren't real, because most of the places they visit are known, famous, haunted locations.

Hey Blackleaf,

We missed the "Live" show but have heard tons about it. Dang.

I went to the forum there and read some of the stuff O'Keefe said about Derek. I do think Derek is a showman ... he sometimes tips over the top with his "possessions" but I do think he's the real deal under that. Apparently various movie stars use his services. One of the sparkly rings he wears is supposed to be from Cher, the singer.

Shell and I don't care for O'Keefe much. He's a cranky little thing and we find his examination of facts lacking. He doesn't address some of the phenomena that is most compelling. Like when they were on the Queen Mary and Richard was sleeping in the bedroom. You distinctly heard a child's voice saying "Mama" while he was sleeping. No comment on that. ;)

We're getting re-runs here in Canada, unfortunately. I wish we'd get the new show!

We live in Victoria, BC, Canada and there are lots of cool ghosties here -- or so they say. There are "ghost walks" which we're hoping to take one night. Would be very cool if "Most Haunted" paid this place a visit!

Hmmm ... think so, TriedIt? I feel the guy has an ability but he's a showman through and through which kinda detracts from his believability. There's just something about him that I really like.

Do you watch the show? Or do you watch any of the paranormal shows? We find that stuff really fascinating!

I loved watching the show...love seeing the places they visit, hearing some of the history of the places...loved watching the hysteria pass from person to person.

Not a big fan of Mr. Acorah. They've had better psychics on the show...less showy more...human.

Cosmo, they should definatley go to Victoria...They could check out the Ross Bay cemetary for one...see if they can find out about some of the "ceramonies" that have gone on there.

O'Keefe often ignores the things in which he can't easily find a logical explanation. There was an episode in The Golden Fleece pub in York (reputedly the most haunted city in Europe, if not the world, with over 500 recorded hauntings) and the pub is supposedly haunted by the former landlord who died in the very early 1700s. He also used to be the Mayor of York. Whilst in one of the rooms with two guys from Radio One who were on the shows as guests, there is a distinct, creepy laugh in Yvette's ear. It is a deep, guttural laugh. Yvette got so scared she started crying and had to be taken outside. When Ciaran took the recording to special lab at his university to see if normal person in the room could have caused the laugh the results said that it was impossible. He didn't even try offer an explanation as to what could have caused it.

Ciaran even once tried to suggest that the ouija board - when they use a glass and it moves around the table - may be caused by involuntary muscle spasms in the arms.

Maybe they will go to Canada sometime in the future.

They've already been to California, too. The biggest show to date is the one onboard the Queen Mary cruise liner when they see wet footprints coming from an empty swimming pool.

Ya, we saw that one a couple of times. That was soooooo creepy!! I had to laugh at the guys from Radio One. I'd have loved to hear what they'd been saying prior to being on the show. Sounded like they were really slagging Most Haunted but I bet the tune changed afterward!

There was another one where Stuart was down in this tight little stone hallway thing and he called "helloooo" out and a few seconds later you heard "hellooo" back ... in a totally different voice. Goosebumps!

Another place there was the distinct sound of a dog growling on a stairway. I woulda loaded my pants if I were there! Ciaran didn't have anything to say about either one of those.

We really liked the new guy ... chubby, little round glasses, I forget his name. I thought he was more credible.

I agree Twila ... Ross Bay Cemetary would be way cool! As well as Old Town and Bastion Square. Lots of cool places. The Ghost Walks sound like fun.
