Now I was just thinking and this includes the Canadian West, or in general the whole American continent about the Aboriginal people of this whole Continent and the South American continent and how they controlled their own lives, they had huge cities and technology (Aztecs, Incas) Had the biggest cities in the world at one point and they had their own self-government, there own systems of trade and power within their own continent.

But now after meeting the Europeans they are in poverty that they can't get out of, in America, in Canada in South America. They are discriminated and there were attempts to destroy their cultures and stick them on non-rich resource land and crappy land for farming.

However, signs are getting better in Bolivia with the election of Morales, and Chavez seems to work well with Natives. And hopefully, someday someone will step up to help Natives in Canada.

I think not

Jersay, you're simplifying the issues, although I agree with your overall sentiment about it being a tragedy. Read 1491, as gopher suggests, you will get alot more insight. You might want to add Trail of Tears by Gloria Jahoda with it. It's about the forced relocation of the Five Tribes in the first half of the 19th century.

I agree its not as simple as it is. However, just trying to visualize that one day you have a native band or tribe living there for centuries or thousands of years, and one day someone says you can't live there anymore is sad. And this happened not only in North America but South America, over in new Zealand.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Trail of Tears by Gloria Jahoda, I read that one for University. It was as very interesting recollection. Sad as well.
