Auroras have been seen in more widespread locations across the planet over the last few days.

The BBC has received photographs of the lights from across the UK.

The phenomenon, known as Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere and Aurora Australis in the Southern Hemisphere, is produced by solar storms which send particles to Earth - 93 million miles away - at 1 million mph.

Since Wednesday our nearest star has had more intense solar storms causing these stronger auroras.

Solar flares can cause power outages and other unfortunate events. However there are no reports of any major calamities occurring with these latest flare ups and the Sun is expected to continue as it is for another 4 billion years before it swells into a red giant.
