A question about pligamy.

I'm not a Christian myself, and likewise have no interest in poligamy (I even oppose poligamy on the ethical front), though I have no particular political opinion about it.

In the New Testament, though, there is no explicit prohibition against poligamy. I seem to vaguely remember reading a verse from the New Testament years ago which seems to praise monogamy, but that's about as close as I've ever come across in the Bible to actually banning it.

That being said, if some Christians continue to try to politicize their religion, then isn't there a danger that poligamy could eventually become legalized in Canada as the political right attempts to impose Christian laws politically onto the body politic?

Not a serious question, just something I'm throwing out for a potentially interesting thread

As I've said many times, I think there is a better chance of a human rights challenge with regard to polygamy.

If the Liberals are going to change the definition of marriage then the polygamists are going to use the human rights debate to their advantage.

RE: A question about plig

Right now they are able to practice polygamy right here in BC. There is nothing the gov't can do about it.

And is that legal or not? And under what defence? Is it just that there is no law against poligamy, or does the law protect them based on freedom of religion? How does that work?

And another question; where in the world do poligamists find the time? :?:

It is in fact illegal to practice polygamy anywhere in Canada, and cannot be challenged under the Charter for that reason...the sad truth is that, for whatever reason, the government turns a blind eye to polygamist communes...
