IT WAS the Christmas pageant at school. A young lad called Jimmy had been given a very simple job to do. Jimmy was the Inn Keeper. He had to stand at the side of the stage and tell Mary and Joseph that there was no room for them at his house.
Thhe whole class had rehearsed and practiced the nativity play many times but on the actual night when Mary and Joseph came along, Jimmy took them by the hand and welcomed them into his home with a big smile upon his face.
Backstage afterwards Jimmy started to cry, because he knew that he was going to get scolded by the teacher for not doing what he was told.
But in his wee heart and soul he just could not say that there was no room, because there was plenty.
After all, Saint Joseph was his best friend in the playground.
