In that case, you don't need to do anything. I would venture to say that the vast majority of people know that they can hear "the word of God" (or, more accurately, the word of some particular proponent of some particular religion) in a Church, and that people are staying away in droves.
So your idea is to forget about it. I take it you're happy with the way things are now.

"Ther ain't no presuading".

God tugs at the heart, and if the heart does not respond, there ain't no persuading.

Inducements, only delay the real issue, and that is to surrender ones heart to Jesus.

Why not just invite them to come and listen to the word of God, rather than bribe them for all the wrong reasons?

Tell them up front why the gift of chocolates so as to give them a chance to deny it based on the fact that the intention is deceive them into coming to church.

Oh come on, don't be so naive. One, it was a joke. But even if serious, don't underestimate people. They know that anything you approach them on is also a thinly veiled invitation to come to church. They will make that choice, and if we can do something to help them walk into the place, what's wrong with that?

I have a shocking bit of news for you AJ, there are allot of people sitting in church on Sundays that are not Christians, yet.

That's creepy. Almost looks like it has a squawkbox in it saying in a infomercial-like voice something like, "Buy this car. It's got low mileage, good rubber, clean interior, .......".
Now I gotta watch the movie.

It was funny. Anything with Carlin in it is funny. I have always liked George Carlin!

What were the two lead actors names? They played their parts so well, so casual and non-chalant.

I thought the boardroom scene was pretty funny too.

Matt Damon and Ben Afleck played the 2 demented angels.

I understand it being a joke Sanctus, but knowing me, I am always a serious sort after God.

And I am not shocked at anything, for I feel I understand the relationships of mankind towards God and visa-versa.

Many of those sitting in the pews are potential members of the church of Christ. It happens that they have not arrived at that point, for it requires a change of heart.

Sanctus, do you remember the protests from Catholics in the US before the movie came out?

Yep, some just take things far too seriously. We are in a culture where the church has been rocked by the biggest scandal in recent memory, shaking the foundations of our collective credibility. Although membership is increasing, we are still far below the church attendance records of 40 years ago. They might be joining, but are they participating? People all around us are facing economic disaster, losing their homes and their jobs, living on Social Services or on our streets. Children are abused and neglected, many of them also on the streets. Drug usage has not declined, but increased...etc...etc...etc and they were worried about a frickin' movie(shrug)

You know what it is don't you? People live for themselves and when danger shows its face, then they seek God's help.
It's a natural phenomena of the flesh.

But yet, God understands and is compassionate towards them. He turns none away.

When the movie came out, and my parishioners began whining all around me about it, I would ask two questions;

1) Have you seen the movie?

and
(since the answer to 1 was usually "OH NO FATHER!!!!!!!!")
2)How than do you know it's an insult to the faith?
