You're still an old General fighting the last war.

I added something in that post you quoted.

I also believe we are learning something from
al Qaeda as it eventually morphs into the only rebel
that can defy a united world order run by the
wise secularists running pell mell into a sci fi future.

History is a cycle of thesis and antithesis where
a police state gives rise to a terrorist and terrorists
give rise to an ever smarter police state.

Thesis and the rebel Anti-thesis will fight until
they synthesize temporarily in a new Thesis, a new
world order that will need a new rebel.

Sorry for repeating Hegel again.

But I find most of our views just echos of the
media echo chamber, including my own.

Like I said, you are like an old General fighting
the last war.

Don't you sense a stale quality to most of our debates?

Each group thinking they can adequately dismiss
the other ?

For the life of me, the rainbow of different colors
are there for a reason that defies the understanding
of most people.

This applies to religions,
and secularists, and atheists, and scientists,
and liberals and conservatives.

And each announces proudly why the other side
is deficient in their understanding.

I think not said:
I've read online that this 70 virgin thing is a western myth, I never really had the nerve of asking a few muslims I know, they are very decent people, I wouldn't want to offend them.

The Koran says '72' and not 70..and they are 'bare-breasted maidens'

This is in addition to the 80,000 servants, wives and so on promised.

The granting of humans as a reward shows what an oppressive religion Islam is. Women are seen as objects given to men.

Yes, so I've heard. I'm considering converting to Islam.

Sadly so. I never thought of the demeaning nature of the concept to women and it's no longer such a farcical joke. Young women being used like a Leprachaun's pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I'm a Muslim and I have no idea where the 72 virgin thing come from! It's not in the Qoraan, and the hadith that does mention it isn't in a very accepted source, and it most likely was falsified.

There's a hadith (tradition) that says:
Abu Basir asked Imam Ja’far ibn Mohammad as-Sadeq: "Will a pious believing couple remain united in the paradise if both the husband and wife desire so?" The Imam said: "If the quality of piety and faith of husband is better, he will have the option, and if the quality of the piety and faith of the wife is better, she will have the option. If one desires the other they will certainly live together." There will be grades in the living conditions of the dwellers of paradise according to the quality of their faith and deeds. It is said that the people of higher regions will be allowed to visit the comparatively lower parts, but the residents of the lower parts will be unable to visit higher regions.

On Wikipedia (not a good source, but I don't have time to look into this thoroughly at the moment) It says on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houri

The Islamic belief in an afterlife replete with houris is reinforced in the following hadith (source: [1]):

"It was mentioned by Daraj ibn Abi Hatim, that Abu al-Haytham 'Adullah Ibn Wahb narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudhri, who heard the Prophet Mohammad (Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) saying, 'The smallest reward for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are eighty thousand servants and seventy two wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from al-Jabiyyah to San'a.

It should be pointed out that the above hadith comes from Imam at-Tirmidhi, whose compilation of hadiths is not considered very scholarly by most Sunni Muslims. That honor belongs to Imam Bukhari, who does not authenticate the claim of 72 wives in his work, the Sahih Bukhari

I'm a Shi'ah Muslim and we reject Sunni ahadith completely. Some of the hadith are actually quite disgusting and no one in their right mind would accept them, which I won't get into.

because most people in the west are too ignorant to realize to really what is going on, they mostly think suicide terrorism, is because religious freaks brainswashed those people to do it, when in fact it is because of foreign occupation.

TAC: So if Islamic fundamentalism is not necessarily a key variable behind these groups, what is?

RP: The central fact is that overwhelmingly suicide-terrorist attacks are not driven by religion as much as they are by a clear strategic objective: to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from the territory that the terrorists view as their homeland. From Lebanon to Sri Lanka to Chechnya to Kashmir to the West Bank, every major suicide-terrorist campaign—over 95 percent of all the incidents—has had as its central objective to compel a democratic state to withdraw.

Interesting concept. A religious so restrictive and conservative ends up giving you an orgy with 70 virgins in heaven/paradise.
