6000 Canadians are acutely poisoned by pesticides each year

Over 6000 Canadians are acutely poisoned by pesticides each year, according to a new report by the David Suzuki Foundation.

Almost 3000 of those poisoned are children.

The authors are calling for a national ban on all lawn and garden pesticides.

Millions of Canadians are not poisoned by pesticides, ever. I should also be noted that there are thousands of food products coming to Canada from off shore, and it is unclear as to whether or not all pesticide regulations have been followed. Canada is one of the countries with the highest control of what is happening with pesticides and their use.
I support many of the environmental actions being taken and proposed, but this is not the whole picture as to how poisoning occured.
For one I do not believe we should ban all yard and garden pesticides lest we be devoured by bugs and insects ourselves. We should however strive for tighter regulations and stipulate who can in fact apply said sprays.
There needs to be a whole lot of discussion before anything is banned.
Sensational headlines or banners without the whole story, is of course counter productive

Well as for food coming here, look at what China sent us for our pets. And it is also in our food , they say anyway...who knows...

Saw where mexico irrigates with totally untreated raw sewage water to grow melons....nice...they use pesticides galore that are banned in Canada and the usa but made in the usa and shipped all over the world.....nice

Most coffee can be used as a pesticide for cryin out loud....The people die real young in villages that harvest the stuff.

I see apples from china and think they are loaded with pollution.....

When the plastimat fire in hamilton happened Harris govt suggested that all produce in home gardens in the area not be eaten, yet the smoke and polution floated all over farm produce, also not really as the wind blows far from niagra....nice.....

There is very little scanning of foods going on as far as i'm concerned....
