Paris 2024 Olympic Games organisers have unveiled the event's new logo - which has been met with both ridicule and praise on Twitter.

The logo shows the iconic Olympic flame offset against a gold medal background with art deco lettering harking back to 1924 when Paris last hosted the Games.

In a nod to French culture and history, the design also has female lips and can be seen as a face depicting Marianne, the woman who has become synonymous with Republican France since the French Revolution.

Some have drawn comparisons to the design and the logo for dating app Tinder, while others have commended the unique reference to France's history.

Paris 2024 unveiled the artistic creation in a tweet on Monday, with the words: 'I am the new emblem of #Paris2024.

'The medal, the flame, Marianne. Here is the new face of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.'

Some were quick to compare the design to the logo of dating app Tinder, which has an orangey-red flame against a white background.

'I'm sorry but I see that,' one Twitter user said along with a laughing face emoji.

Another person drew the same comparison, saying: 'The logo of #JO @Paris2024 unveiled, not to be confused with @Tinder, although it is a beautiful nod to the French culture!'

Others pointed out that the logo looked 'nothing like' the real Marianne, who is displayed in many places in France and holds a place of honour in town halls and law courts.

'Looks nothing like her,' said one Twitter user, placing a picture of the bust of Marianne alongside the logo.

The game organisers said in a statement: 'It is made up of three symbols, both simple and powerful.

'The gold medal, symbol of sport. The flame, icon of the Olympic and Paralympic movement. Marianne, image of France.

'These symbols reveal a face that embodies our ambition to put people at the heart of the Games.'

The London logo looked like shattered glass.

No, it looked like Lisa Simpson giving a blowjob.

The Paris one is an optical illusion. You can either see it as flame in front of a gold medal or a face with lips, eyes and hair.

It was a mess and it should have never made it past the first sorting.

It was the perfect advertisement for how addle brained the British have become in recent years.

The French one is cute and fun.

Well the logo isn't really that important - although whether it's good or not is merely subjective.

It's the organisation of the Games that counts - and, of course, the quality of the sport.

And the 2012 London Olympics were the best Summer Olympics ever.

London also beats her near neighbour Paris in that London has hosted the Olympics more times than any other city.

This shouldn't be a big deal if you think about. Most if not all representations of a person in the Olympics is default a male. To have something representing a woman instead should not even make the news

It's rather cute ... and human. Beats the hell out of the nihilistic crap that the Brits thought was good.
