The sooner the better. We've heard enough, plus there are many other reasons Martin doesnt' deserve to govern any longer.

RE: Do you think an elect

So why doesn't Harper talk about those other reasons in the House of Commons?

If the scandal is going to the main issue (and I still doubt the Conservatives can pull that off once the real campaigning starts), then we deserve to have all of the facts before we are asked to make a decision based on that issue. We will not have all of those facts until Gomery makes his report.

RE: Do you think an election should be called right away?

I was listening to Martin on cross country check up this afternoon, and one caller said that we should have an election sooner than later, that we should only wait until the testimony is done, not the entire report. And Martins response was that there has been a lot of testimony and basically that we’re to stupid to draw our own conclusions.

Also I was 8 days too young to vote in the last election, so I’m kinda excited to get to vote for the first time.

I was listening to Cross Country Check-up too, and Martin said no such thing. He did point out that Gomery was the only one who had heard all of the testimony and had access to all of the supporting (or disproving, in many cases) testimony.

Unless you've been watching the testimony every day on CPAC for eight hours a day and have read all of those documents, then you do not have all of the information.

Whenever the election is called[and I hope it isn't in the Winter!],my hope is everyone will vote. There is far too much apathy among the average Canadian regarding this.

I have a feeling that a lot more people are just going to stay home this time, missile. If you were a Liberal voter and don't want to vote for this time, but are uneasy about the policies and religiousity of the Harperites, what would you do?

I hope they move to the NDP or the alternative parties, but chances are that a good portion of them will just stay home.

We had a low turnout last time,and I lost my vote again. Nothing would stop me from going to vote! And, it's about time we gave the NDP a chance to run the country[couldn't do any worse than the Libs and PCs did!] I know lowering the voting age has been discussed over and over,but I just don't feel the average teenager gives a damn for anything political-I know I had better things to think of at that age {GIRLS!!}

That is why we need a mandatory voting law like in Australia. So many people talk the importance of freedom and democracy, but when it comes time to exercising their rights, they don't.

The worst are the folks that think not voting is a good form of protest. People who don't vote are idiots. What right do you have to complain about the systems and policies that governments put in place if you can't take the 15 minutes to go out and vote?

While I was at university, I was a deputy returning officer in Kingston during a federal election and it was a joke at how few people showed up to vote. Then you also have the idiots the come and mark off all the candidates’ names, what really is the point of spoiling a ballot?

Mind you there were people on the other side; people who were just so excited to vote. Some had their picture taken as the deposited their ballot. Some of our new citizens from some not so nice countries cried because they were so happy that they had this opportunity.

RE: Do you think an elect

I think if the government falls there should be no election. Waste of money.

Why doesn't Harper make some sort of coalition or alliance with Bloc. Go see the Governor General and make his case to form the government. Of course Gilles Duceppe would have to be in on it and agree not to bring down the government for a year or two.

If they Tories and Bloc could work together it is within the Governor Generals power to not shut down Parliament and let Harper take over with the support of the Bloc.

That solves it all, I think. Win win for everyone. Harper gets his dream job, Bloc gets some power and saves taxpayers 300 million for an unnecessary election.

If there was a June election Harper will only get a miniority anyways. Whats the diference if you have a miniority with 99 seats or 125? You still need other party support and Harper is not going to pick up anything in Quebec.

This way you have the same results (tory miniority, if they are lucky) without going to the polls.

Any thoughts?

You really would want the next government of Canada to be a coalition between the Conservatives and the Bloc, a party bent on dismantling the federation?

How would this be benificial and to who? They don't even agree on anything, so how would that work?

Don't worry, Steven Harper will become the next Prime Minister and he will join the ranks of Joe Clark, John Turner and Kim Campbell.

How is it going to work if he wins a miniority? The NDP wont back them and the Liberals won't on a lot of things. We will be voting again next year as well, if Harper only gets a miniority next month. So he will have to find a way to work with the Bloc or else we will be voting every 12-16 months. As long as the Bloc have the stranglehold in PQ we will have miniority governments for a long long time.

They do agree on one thing , bringing down the government though.

3 elections in 3 years is a waste of money if you ask me, especially at 300 million a pop.

So maybe the Governor General should do her job for once, instead of wasting more tax dollars like she does quite well.

People are going to get sick of voting, they are now.

RE: Do you think an elect

The Conservative coalition with the Bloc will end after the Liberals are brought down. The Bloc are a socially progressive party, their policies are closer to the NDP than the Liberals, never mind the far-right Conservatives. They will not work with the Conservatives in a governing coalition.

The Martinites in the Liberal party would be the natural allies of a Conservative minority. I have a feeling that Martin will be gone after the next election though and the next leader of the Liberals will likely come from the left side of the party and outside of Quebec. That will leave the Conservatives trying to govern in a minority without any allies.

Like I've said before, Harper has more power and influence as leader of the opposition in a Liberal minority than he will as PM in a Conservative one.

I realize that the Bloc has every right to run and send its members to the federal parliament, but really what are they doing? Are they furthering the desires of their constituents?

I mean, the Bloc loves it when Canada appears not to work, so really aren't they basically acting as a mole in parliament?

I don't live in Quebec, so I wonder what les Quebecois feel they are getting from the Bloc. I mean separation can only occur via the PQ in the provincial parliament.

Since Martin's 'address to the nation' he's been furiously spinning out anouncements of funding to the tune of $200 million a day! We can't afford not to have an election now.

If Martin doesn't want an election why is he campaigning non-stop the past week? On our tax dollar, mind you!

Most of that is just the roll-out of the budget, Mike. It isn't new money that is suddenly being spent. We see this every year.
