Omnibus : Gas prices, Oil prices, Embargos

Does it have to be "full-on socialism" ? Can't we somehow just do with a little less capitalism ? We've been watching the middle class wither away for fifty years now, while those few at the top of the food chain amass more wealth than they could ever possibily need. And lets not fool...

Omnibus : Gas prices, Oil prices, Embargos

Messing with the free market is a bit of a sacred cow to be sure, but what do you do when the corporate sector is taking undue advantage of the situation ? Especially with something like gasoline where the alternatives a limited for a lot of people.

Why would it? Pretty much business as usual in Canada.

Omnibus : Gas prices, Oil prices, Embargos

Still a significant increase, and other parts of the province have certainly not fared as well. My question remains, what is the justification for domestic price increases when domestic supply and demand are unchanged ?

Your math is correct, your logic is off. From $1.50 to $1.85 is an increase of 35 cents, which is 23 percent of $1.5. From $1.50 to $2.00 is an increase of one third, or 33%. You're using $1.80 as the starting point, when it's actually $1.50.

Ain't it though ? One might almost think we're living in an economy run by a select few to benefit only a select few. Brings out the lefty in me.

    Better check your math. 1.50 to 1.85 is a 23% increase, 1.50 to 2.00 would be a 33% increase.

Some locations in at the coast have broken $2./litre already, prices in the interior have gone from $1.50/litre to $1.85 in two days, and we are being warned that $2./litre and higher is imminent. Gasbuddy.com is listing BC's current average price at $186.4/litre.

Omnibus : Gas prices, Oil prices, Embargos

BC draws most of its gasoline from Edmonton and our two BC refineries. Imports from Washington amounts to less than 10% of our supply. Certainly not enough to account for a thirty percent price hike.

So if domestic supply and domestic demand are unchanged, why are pump prices in BC moving into the $2.00/litre territory ? Explain to me how this isn't just a cash grab by an industry that "has done so much for Canadians".

Omnibus : Gas prices, Oil prices, Embargos

I'm having some trouble connecting the dots between the prices soaring at pumps here at home and Putin's aggression in Ukraine. Most of our gasoline in here in BC is domestically produced, either in Alberta or at one of two refineries here in BC, with maybe 10% imported from Washington State...

B.C. mayor's brother alleges death threat, assault

My mayor. This is what you get when you vote in anger and not with reason. After serving four terms as a city councillor he stepped away from that role to unsuccessfully run for mayor in 2014. Running again in 2018 in the midst of a heated dispute over plans to offer a commercial lease on...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

That became a moot point the second the US imposed their own border mandates, that was before the convoy even got near Ottawa. That was where things started to go south, when the point of the whole thing got foggy and went from end-the-border-mandates to f**k-Trudeau. As time progressed and...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

Yes, I agree. He dawdled and dawdled, pleading with the protesters to go home, and it all fell on deaf ears. After three weeks of ignoring pleas and orders from everybody, was there really any other way to bring it to an end ? The EA just helped make it happen quicker, once the resolve was...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

Yes, but that goes back to the internal split within the party, between moderates and those further to the right. The last thing the party needs is anyone who might even come close to falling under the far right label. Don't make the mistake of assuming that all voters are informed about the...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

That remains to be seen. What you see as "supporting Trudeau" can also be viewed as "opposing the CPC", something which is to be expected from a left wing party. The only people crying about the EA are conservatives, the same people widely seen to be at the roots of the protest. Looking back...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

The cost of the border blockades is being measured in billions in lost business and employment, and the losses incurred by businesses and their employees in downtown Ottawa is equally disturbing, as was the disruption endured by residents. The protesters didn't have a lot of credibilty once...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

It did bring them close as the popular vote results show. They just need a way to glean off some votes from the Liberals' urban strongholds. I can't see taking the CPC further to the right doing much for them, it would certainly put a bucket full of rhetorical ammo in the hands of left leaning...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

Trudeau has always struck me as a pretty-boy idealist. He coasted to power on his father's reputation at a time when Harper's reputation was in the dumpster, and despite Trudeau's steadily declining popularity the Conservatives can't seem to come up with a better solution. The elections have...

    Omnibus: Conservative Leadership Race

There is serious doubt as to how long Trudeau will last as leader of the Liberals, but also serisou question about what political direction the Conservatives will adopt when their leadership issue is solved. As far as the freedom protests are concerned, I'm of the mind that the EA was a...
