    Welcome to Juan's Kitchen!

The noble yam indeed. Another way is to peal them and cut them into French fry like chips and deep fry them. Of course the old standby is to peel, cook, and mash them with a bit of butter and a touch of brown sugar.

    Welcome to Juan's Kitchen!

    Welcome to Juan's Kitchen!

No problem Praxius. Cooking is generally just common sense and experience. You eventually learn what works and what doesn't.

Why Juan is in the kitchen

A lot of years ago, my wife and I were both working. As luck would have it, it just happened that I got home earlier than my wife so it seemed logical to start dinner. Later I ran a consulting business out of our home so again I was home at the time dinner would have to be started. To make a...

    Building a backyard observatory

This is a blog site dealing with the building of a backyard observatory. My son built this one in Coquitlam and he has set this up, written the text, and taken all the pictures. You will be able to see that it is probably not a project for everyone. The whole idea of a backyard observatory...

    Mars is inhabited.

eanassir I sincerely hope others will join me, as I join Dexter in serving you notice that in our opinion, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Your statement that Mars is inhabited is just nonsense. The surface of Mars is a frigid desert with no water, no plant or animal...

    Mars is inhabited.

Zzarchov According to the NASA chart above, water makes up only 0.03 percent of the skimpy Martian atmosphere, so ice is not going to be found in great quanties no matter what eanassir wants to say.

    Mars is inhabited.

I'm going to make a guess that you don't know that it is possible to look a a complete map of the surface of Mars. There are no lakes, or rivers, or oceans. There are only the polar caps that are made up of both water ice and dry ice(CO2). You can say Mars is full of water in all forms but...

    Mars is inhabited.

The following is a series of photos of Mars. Knowing what we know about the almost nonexistent atmosphere and the freezing temperatures, would you say there is much chance of Mars being inhabited by anything but some very hardy bacteria?

    Trying my hand at pickling

    Karrie's Garden Masterpieces

We don't have much of a garden this year except for our herbs that we grow in big pots(almost half barrels) on our sun deck. A couple weeks ago I harvested most of our basil to make a pile of Pesto sauce which I froze. Surprising enough, the basil has come right back and is almost two feet...

    Trying my hand at pickling

A few years ago we lost a whole batch of dill pickles to some kind of mold. The whole top of all the jars was covered with green fur. The batch had only been in the jars a couple months. I don't think I would skip the processing......but then I'm a coward.......:-P

    Trying my hand at pickling

I've never had the pleasure. One of the problems is finding a supply of walnuts....read "finding a cheap supply of walnuts". I use walnuts in cooking but at 79 cents per hundred grams, I don't think making walnut pickles has ever come up.:-P
