  • When I came To Canada

    When I came to Canada,
    it was snowing.

    When I came to Canada,
    the streets were empty.

    When I came to Canada,
the world was talking about climate change and economic recession.

    When I came to Canada,
I was nobody, I had no fame, no position, no connections
    no facade to maintain.
    I was far gone.

    When I came to Canada,
I was free, I had nothing to lose.

    When I came to Canada,
I was alone, I had no friends.

    When I came to Canada,
    I had open hands,
    ready to give and receive.

    When I came to Canada,
    I was free to speak.

    When I came to Canada,
I had no religion, I had left all the groups,
    or they didn't want me.

    When I came to Canada,
    I was an outsider,
    I was Shiva.

    When I came to Canada,
    I had a Mother,
    Mother of all Commonwealth.

    When I came to Canada,
I had followed signs and omens
from Sydney to London, to Toronto
    I had followed racehorses
from Mascot to Ascot, to Kentucky and Montreal.

    When I came to Canada,
    I was a Stallion proud.

    When I came to Canada,
    I was utterly mad
    speaking incomprehensible gibberish.

    When I came to Canada,
I didn't try to make sense,
I had given up to poetry.

    When I came to Canada,
I was no longer looking for a teacher,
    or group to belong.

    I was the teacher.
    I was the group.

    When I came to Canada,
    it was dark winter night
and I was at home cooking rice.

    When I came to Canada,
I had no plan, I had not been given any instructions, I had no support, no guide,
    I came on my own.

    When I came to Canada,
    only one thing was said,
    one thing given
    one card from tarot.
Man hanging upside down from a tree.

    When I came to Canada,
    A promise was given:
The Canadians are going to take you down.
and you will be able to speak.
    They will be your equals
you will understand and they will understand.
They will know you and you will know them.
This is the promise of Vishnumaya.

    When you came to Canada,
it was around 2012, Mayan Apocalypse
and it will not be the end,
    but a beginning.

    When I came to Canada,
    nobody knew.

    When I came to Canada,
    she was but a promise,
her cheeks shy like a rose
her beauty still closed in a bud.

    When I came to Canada,
I came like a stranger to strange land.

    When I came to Canada,
I held a maple leaf in my hands.

    When I came to Canada,
    I was at peace.

    When I came to Canada,
I gave her all my heart.
    Charles Bukowski and The Racetrack

Charles Bukowski, 'How to Be a Great Writer': 'just drink one more beer / more and more beer / and attend the racetrack at least one a week / and win / if possible'
I don't like alcoholism, but Bukowski was still a good writer. I wonder how high he could have got without alcohol...
Just realized that Hunter S. Thompson wrote an article called "The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved", in 1970. It is written in gonzo-style: the manic, first-person subjectivity. Now hold your breath:

Giacomo is 2005 Kentucky Derby winner! - Lo and behold.
I guess, I wish to speak a little about my nick. It isn't just random word. usually when I come to a new forum, I must have some sort of identification, or evolving personal mythology connected with the name.

My intention was to use portuguese name Tiago, but it was reserved. So, I went searching for Tiago´s substitute, and found out that Tiago is a Thoroughbred racehorse. This association is interesting. Tiago is an American Thoroughbred Stallion Racehorse, and his half-brother the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, Giacomo.

So, Tiago and Giacomo are racehorses. Tiago and Giacomo are the same names meaning James, the first being Portuguese and the second, Italian.

When I found out about this, I realized I should be here Giacomo. But of course it all isn't as simple as this, as I have been playing with this mythology for some months now, and been through many racecourses throughout the world. Like Sherlock Holmes. My investigations now seem to lead towards Blue Bonnets Raceway (also known as Hippodrome de Montréal). Probably this does not make any sense to average reader, but disregarding it, I wished to share.
