I realy don't think it is customary for the leader of one nation to bow to another as bowing shows subservience.

Does the Canadian PM customarily bow before Kings and Emperors? Does the Queen of England?

Some of us can be for sure...as the picture shows.

Wrong...it's morons like you. Bowing in Japan is damn near the same as shaking hands in the west. Not bowing is a sign of disrespect. |The same as not shaking someones hand here. But, of course, you idiots are so stuck on yourselves........

Bowing is symbolic. If you can show how his bowing actually translates to Obama selling American interests short, you may have something. Isn't it in fact the opposite? Obama is seen as a protectionist Democrat on economic issues.

Actions, in this case Administrative actions speak louder than photo oportunism actions. Compared to the issues Obama has on his plate: economy, healthcare reform, his energy and environment plans...his bowing to a figurative leader on their turf is the definition of a red herring.

Look at the picture Avro showed of Bush. Holding hands, probably not seen as bad by most because that action implies no direction of power. How does cozying up to the Saudis compare to a meaningless bow to a foreign figure head? If anything, Bush policies protected the American addiction to foreign oil. Has bowing to the UK Queen, or the Japanese Emporer lead to anything substantive, as far as the average American is concerned? Here's a hint, who crafts legislation in those countries? Has Obama bowed to them? Holding hands with a Theocratic ruler seems to have produced more impacts on American lives than bowing to a figure head.

Context. A bow doesn't have to mean anything. Sometimes it just means respect.

Bowing in this case shows respect, it only shows subservience to anyone unequiped to realize that there may be other people on this planet other than Americans and sometimes those people have different customs.

Do tell, where does it say leaders can't respect each other in a custom?

Leaders share in customs of other nations all the time....why is this different?
