US will back new Iran sanctions

The US wants a new resolution on Iran agreed 'with some dispatch'

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said there is a "very strong case" for a third round of sanctions on Iran over its disputed nuclear programme.

She spoke as the UN nuclear agency said it could offer no "credible assurances" that Iran was not building a bomb.

UN Security Council members the US, UK, China, France and Russia meet on Monday in Washington to mull their next step.
But Iran's top nuclear negotiator said the UN report backed Tehran's claim its nuclear programme was peaceful.
Tehran refuses to stop enriching uranium, insisting its work is aimed purely at generating electricity.

The US just doesn't give up!! As with Iraq they now try to bring Iran to its knees. I wonder how Russia and China will vote.

You've got to love the American boogyman speak.....

Why don't Americans place sanctions against China or Russia or places where there are definately signs of the development of nuclear arsenels?

In case you haven't been paying attention ...The Israeli government of America wants to eradicate Islam and anything even remotely resembling Islam....

Oy Vey....Once again we see the American Dream in action......

What absolute garbage!

Behold the US endorsing, embracing and affirming the existence of the majority Muslim sovereign nation of Kosovo.

US acknowledges Kosovos independence

Again, try reality, it tastes better.

In case you haven't noticed Boob...er Bear....Kosovo and Serbia are on the brink of civil war.... What better strategy than to promulgate divisiveness that once again paints the Islamists as the bad guys.....

Try again Boob....er Bear....

This statement better suites you then I mikey. Look at the reality of the situation, the baseless assumptions, opinions and hyperbole you just applied to topic at hand.

So when confronted with reality you fall to the depths of name calling and baseless accusations.

You really are showing some true growth there Mikey.

Now, how about the conflict that drove NATO and the UN to invade...who did the MSM and NATO propaganda spin miesters pin that on..? Oh ya, the Christian Serbs...Who is being violent at the moment..? Oh ya, Christian Serbs...

Got reality?

In my opinion Iran and Kosovo are two vastly different situations. Iran is a threat to Israel! Iran is also a most desirable chunk of land the Americans would like to add to their hegemonic control for reasons already discussed in another thread.

Oh BALONEY!

Did you know that Israel was one of the FIRST nations to offer to take some Bosnian MUSLIMS refugees when the Serbs were engaging in ethnic cleansing?

America went to war to defend Muslims in Kosovo........which was probably dumb and idealistic of them.......

Jews make up a smaller portion of the US electorate than Blacks or Hispanics........

GET REAL!

The Great Jewish Conspiracy DOESN'T EXIST!

This stuff makes me very angry.....it smells of the ovens at Dachau.

There goes good old Yankee logic --- somebody ought to let her know that you cannot prove a negative.

Without actually building another "Holocaust Memorial" right here in Canadian Content....like the world needs another one..! Perhaps you can explain why the United States spends billions of dollars in "aid" to Israel while obviously more than prepared to invade Moslem nations? Why does the United States support the malingering and obfuscation of many many U.N. actions by Israel? While calling for financial constraints against Iran, Israel recieves the unqualified support of the United States when it refuses to accept and abide by U.N. resolutions?

Now if you're going to offer the same old crap about "The only democracy in the Mid East"...never mind, you haven't been convinced nor are you available to be convinced that the government in Israel isn't anything even remotely akin to "democracy". There's far more evidence pointing in the direction that something other than altruistic dreams are behind the unwavering support found for Israel in the "Land of the Free"....

Tell us Colpy, why do Americans dance to the Israeli tune?

How much is America willing to spend?

http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=831

For those who have any availability to examining the reality of the enormous imbalance both fiscally and philosophically that continued support for Israel by the United States represents…..

The question is why?

Is there any reason why the enormous wealth of the United States is and has been at the beck and call of the Israeli government for as long as it has while other states with oil and with far more democratically oriented governments fail to recieve a similar favoritisim?

Would the financial support given to Israel by the United States have made a difference in world peace if it had been given to an Islamic nation?

Because most of the UN resolutions concerning Israel are laughable............they would, taken as a group, spell the end of that nation.

What do you mean Israel is not a "democracy"? It is, in fact, a healthier democracy than our own, as the PM does not run a five year dictatorship......who is denied the vote?

Israel is a friend of the United States..........and yes, it is a democracy, and yes, it enjoys rule of law, and yes, it is a nation dedicated to the ideals of western civilization, and yes, Israel DESERVES our support....and because the USA is essentually a Christian nation.....with a respect for, and a debt owed to the Jewish people.

And, believe it or not, the United States supports Israel because IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

The same reason I support Israel.

Period.

Colpy

Ask a Palesinian how "democratic" Israel is.

How "democratic" can a nation be when the people decide what government they want and Israel under the protection of the U.S. witholds revenues normally given the governmental structure of the Palestinians?

What "debt" is "owed" that surpasses the "debt" owed by any nation to any other?

Sophistry Colpy.

I think if the United States went back to its roots and ideals that made it a great nation that would do more for peace than anything. The United States wasn't founded to be an empire and many people never wanted to maintain one but instead wished to trade with all nations around the world and mostly defend its regional territory not international ones. Americans were fairly isolationist minded people for a while and had no intention of fighting everyone's wars or regional and ethnic conflicts. But slowly this changed and America has been driven into many of these wars they had thought to avoid in the past for very good reasons.

I believe it would also be in Canada's interests to promote trade and friendship rather than war and sanctions. What gets achieved by alienating one nation over another? When telling someone to obey and threatening "or else" does anyone think they will truly listen to us or would want to comply? Why would Iran want to disarm its nuclear arsenal if it even has one? So foreign nations can threaten them and possibly attack them? But I guess the justification being these weapons could fall into the wrong hands. Perhaps if we weren't meddling into their affairs they wouldn't even be building these weapons or would want to aid them to new age privateers. What goes around usually comes around and America's position was mostly brought onto it by itself. The lesson here is to learn from these mistakes rather than keep repeating them.

Hi, Mikey;
I read your link and see that this amount of 3 000 000 000 000 =3 trillion dollars was spent over a period of 30 years - 1973 to 2003. That would reduce it to an average of 100 000 000 000 = 100 billion/year. Please, check if I got that right!
Well, that is still an awful lot!

Hardly anybody is that selflessly generous these days. So, I too wonder what is in it for America?
One thing I can think of is having a faithful and trustworthy ally in a most volatile area which is highly desirable to the Americans.
Anybody else have an idea, suggestions?

Colpy,...
you say it is the right thing to do! Period!
I ask why not support the Palestinians who's land was taken, who live on the absolute margins of life, who are bombarded, bulldozed and harrassed in many other forms on a daily basis?
Why not support them as well?
Something is done deliberately and with a decided purpose. To find that purpose would help to understand a big chunk of American politics.
