Franklin Roosevelt ... tax and spend Socialist. There's just no other possible explanation, for it!
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm- maybe 12 years in office contributed a bit! (the longest serving president)
I did okay during the Clinton years. When Carter was in there the interest rates shot to the moon and no one was building. Tough times then.

I'm pretty sure it peaked when Reagan was at the helm, about 1982 or 83. In Canada anyway!
