Democrats lead greater than 10 previous US Presidents

Hillary Clinton's lead over Donald Trump in popular vote passes 2.5 million

Hillary Clinton has received more than 2.5 million more votes than Donald Trump in the Presidential election, making her lead over her rival greater than 10 previous US Presidents.

The former Secretary of State lost the electoral college and conceded her 232 electoral votes – distributed in different numbers per state – to Mr Trump’s final tally of 306 votes.

Yet the Democrat has accrued 65,250,000 total votes so far, compared to the President-elect’s 62,686,000 — meaning at least 2,564,000 more Americans voted for her.

The Democrat's lead has been swelling thanks to late counting of mail in and absentee votes in states including California, New York and Washington.

As ballots continued to be counted on Thursday, 46.2 per cent of the electorate had voted for Mr Trump, while 48.1 per cent opted for Ms Clintons— figures that have caused critics to complain the voting system is undemocratic.

Despite polling failing to forecast the bombastic property tycoon's win, Ms Clinton’s 1.9 per cent lead puts her on track to secure the popular vote pollsters predicted in the days before the election.

Her lead is five times that of Al Gore’s advantage over George W Bush in the contentious 2000 Presidential election..

There never was such whining before about the voting system being 'undemocratic'. The Clinton crowd are just a bunch of sore losers who will put the blame for their loss anywhere.
How democratic would it be if the few States where Clinton won the popular votes control the rest of the 50 States? The present system gives a voice to the States that would be silenced by the densely populated States. Like in Canada where two Provinces control the whole country. What's democratic about that?

Funny how the polls before the election were very specific about how Hilary would win PA, MI, OH, FL and NC by a large margin. These polls seem to have been cleverly forgotten. Clearly Hillary is very popular with in NY and CA.

I don't disagree there, but most polling was done on the popular vote and that can be with any configuration of state support. There are some states where Hilary won and Trump was supposed to.

I just want to make clear that people should not allege general population polls are wrong without all of the facts.

Also, and this is the greater point here, this is just more evidence for why every country needs proportional representation and how we continue to be divided without it.

Barry didn't lose more than half the votes.

This is going to be worse than Harper who got roundly rejected (and is still rejected at least one year later) after a one term majority.

He might not even make it through his first term just like Blob Ford.

Why does it continue to be necessary to repeat this? It's NOT a criteria for winning the U.S. election any more than which candidate took the biggest number of craps in the past year!

It's important to show that the polls were actually correct, otherwise we begin a path where they stop happening because people don't think they matter.

In the context of this election, it's important to show how the electoral college continues to fuel a divided country, during every president's term, including Obama's.

What this means is that you have a constant pendulum swing where the next Democrat is going to spend too much time getting rid of Republican policies and vice versa.

America is the perfect case for proportional representation.

You have very selective memory. You suggested repeatedly that the only polls worth their salt (ironic choice in words) was the regional ones. Those ones were the ones which were clearly wrong. Based upon how the counts were before CA was counted, Trump had lead in rest of country. CA obviously was a Hillary hotbed and has swung the popular vote.
