Bernie Sanders Says He Will Vote for Hillary Clinton

Senator Bernie Sanders said on Friday that he will vote for Hillary Clinton in the November presidential election, offering one more indication that he has given up on his own candidacy.

Asked if he would cast his vote for Mrs. Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program, Mr. Sanders said, “Yes.”

He added that the alternative, Donald J. Trump, would be dire for the country: “The issue right here is I’m going to do everything I can do to defeat Donald Trump. I think Trump, in so many ways, would be a disaster for this country if he were elected.”

Mr. Sanders has previously signaled that he would work with Mrs. Clinton to defeat Mr. Trump, and on Wednesday he acknowledged that “it doesn’t appear” that he’ll be the Democratic nominee when the party gathers for its convention next month. But he has thus far refused to suspend his presidential bid or stop campaigning. He had a campaign rally in New York City on Thursday night, and similar events are scheduled in Albany and Syracuse on Friday.

The remarks from Mr. Sanders increase the likelihood of the Democratic Party uniting ahead of the July 25-28 convention in Philadelphia, and could help Mrs. Clinton sway Sanders supporters who would otherwise sit out the November election or vote for Mr. Trump.

Mr. Sanders said that right now his goal is to fight for the strongest possible platform at the convention. He is pushing for the inclusion of progressive policies that protect vulnerable workers and keep big money out of politics.

Not breaking news, he implied this a long time ago. He's not a socialist contrary to what many believe, he's a reformist capitalist pigdog.

Bernie might vote for Hillary but millions of his supporters won't. Once the genie is unleashed from the bottle it it difficult to get it back in.

Sanders is the worst kind of socialist. A rich a$$hole that is embarrassed by his unearned wealth. He would be far worse than Hillary as prez.

Poor ole donald having a great time starring in political apprentice til folks started taking his script seriously when challenger's script writers couldn't counter his bluster. Now he has to face hillary a gal blessed with selective memory and skilled at stretching truth beyond the point of rupture, it should be an interesting duel. Have to feel for the americans though like what possible criteria could be summoned to grant either the commander in chief bullhorn. Might provide a boost for gary johnson when folks can't bring themselves to support trump or clinton.

everyone of Trump's projects goes bankrupt and he continues to act like an amazing businessman. i'm tired of these pigs feigning innate superiority, when it's simply down to luck and privilege.

Our job is to pass the most progressive platform in the history of the Democratic Party. If we do not win here we can carry our values to the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

The DNC Just Torpedoed the Majority of Bernie Sanders’ Agenda

The battle over the official Democratic Party platform began in earnest this Friday at a nine-hour meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, and already the sparks of tension seem to be outweighing the calls for “unity.”

The Democratic Party’s platform is an official statement of values on a wide range of issues, and while it is officially non-binding, the platform serves as a crucial guidepost for the entire party. The 2016 platform committee comprises fifteen members, with five members chosen by Bernie Sanders, six chosen by Hillary Clinton, and four chosen by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Bernie Sanders himself had conflicting feelings about the progress and concessions made on Friday, releasing a statement on his website that said he was “pleased” with certain aspects but was “disappointed and dismayed” at other decisions, particularly those regarding trade.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), a Sanders representative on the committee, attempted to insert language into the platform that stated Democrats would not hold a vote on the widely derided Trans-Pacific Partnership deal in order to effectively end the plan’s prospects, but the committee rejected Ellison’s proposal so as to avoid indirectly criticizing President Obama on the issue, despite both Sanders and Clinton being against the deal.

Clinton originally called TPP the “gold standard” of trade deals during her tenure as Secretary of State, but has since publicly opposed TPP while on the campaign trail. Sanders said it was “inexplicable” that Clinton’s appointees to the committee would not support the Democratic candidates’ own views.

Some mutual progress was made in other expected areas of agreement. The language on immigration policies and criminal justice reform was finalized fairly quickly, with the platform unexpectedly taking a strong stand against capital punishment, calling it “a cruel and unusual form of punishment which has no place” in the United States. Sanders strongly opposes the death penalty in even the most extreme cases, while Clinton has argued to reserve the right of the federal government to capital punishment in the most “heinous” examples.

The platform also supported a number of banking regulations, “including an updated and modernized version of Glass-Steagall,” with additional policies added in an effort to fight the “shadow banking” industry. The platform also includes language that supports the expansion and strengthening of Social Security.

The Democrats also voted to include the $15 minimum wage into the platform, even calling the current rate of $7.25 a “starvation wage.” However, there arose some confusion over this particular issue among progressive critics, as two further amendments introduced by Ellison that would have indexed the minimum wage to inflation, making it a truly “livable wage,” were voted down.

Bernie Sanders says he's still not endorsing Hillary Clinton, insists it's the 'wrong question'

He's said he will vote for Clinton in November but told MSNBC on Tuesday that his plan to vote for her isn't an endorsement of the candidate. "No, they're not one and the same," he said. "What I am trying to do now, in a variety of ways, is to see that we have a Democratic platform that represents working families, that is prepared to take on the fossil fuel industry and Wall Street."

Throughout his insurgent presidential run, Sanders has called for a "political revolution" that seeks to completely explode politics as usual. His aggressive progressive agenda includes breaking up big banks, replacing Obamacare with a government-run universal health-care system, free public college education and expanded Social Security benefits.

"Our job is to transform America, to end the 40-year decline of the American middle class," Sanders told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell. "That is what I am fighting to do. And we are in that process right now. We did very well, I thought, in St. Louis, in terms of the first meeting of the platform committee. Now we go to Orlando, and then we go to the floor of the Democratic Convention. Politics is not a baseball game with winners or losers. What politics is about is whether we protect the needs of millions of people in this country who are hurting. That is my focus. And my job right now is to make the Democratic Party as open, as inclusive, as progressive as it possibly can be, and that's what we're working on as we speak."

Hillary is wall street just like heston was nra and prying money brokers from her would be as charlton asserted on guns "I'll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands". How bernie hopes to challenge wall street with it's icon as head honcho escapes me. Bernie appears wed to his party and will support it no matter how foul the candidate, party politics really suck. If he threatened to vote for the libertarians that would send a very strong message but not be so great for dems and with trump knocking on the whitehouse door realistically his options are slim. Bummer when your reduced from contention to having to hold your nose and 'take one for the party'.
